John was lazy and cheap. He did little research and really didn't give a damn how good or bad they were. If he was right, ok. If he was wrong, too bad. That's your problem.

And look who was doing the "research"--Goose, Janko, Tailpipe Chip and his merry men...a bunch of self-important numbnuts and washouts with no training or skill.

Bear says, "You want a book, you got a deadline, here's your book and on time. Oh, you want accuracy too? Well, you can't have everything. If the clowns doing the research screwed it up we'll just fix it in the next edition." That's why there are like nine thousand editions.
