I can only guess that he didn't think people would bother to go back and check to see if he was telling the truth. Of course had he not started telling the story so very differently, others, like myself, probably wouldn't have even bothered doing a truth check. The man told us it would be sunny and then tries to take credit for predicting rain.
Bear's guide -although not entirely worthless- were just like those funkly XYZ town weekly they hand out at street corners. Apparently a "serious" publication to guide you through the city, but in reality an excuse for making a dime on a bunch of ads promoting one place and demoting another.
