About 10 years ago one of the Seagram Whisky Bronfmans moved from Canada to the US. A resident emigrating from Canada must declare any capital gains earned to date and pay taxes on them, unless your name is Bronfman who obtained a preclearance to avoid the tax. You can't tell me Liberal Party donations are a waste of money.
