pre4ever: "What a waste of time....don't these morons in the House have anything better to do to justify their existence?"

Two little facts among many:

1. A congressional committee reliably determined, pre-Internet, that there were at least 5,000 fake MDs practicing in the US. I testified against one (who bought his MD for $100, and was on trial for manslaughter, having given a child the wrong medicine. (My own MD, which I use as a prop in TV appearances) was purchased from a counterfeiter in Grants Pass, who sold thousands of fake Harvard,Yale, and other diplomas for $40 each.

2. About 40,000 PhDs are earned in the US each year. One huge fake, run by Americans in Romania, sells more than 50,000 fake doctorates to Americans. In other words, more than half of all new PhDs are fake.

These are things worth worrying about.

John Bear, who was the FBI's main diploma mill consultant and expert witness for eleven years.

John Klempner Bear, who has operated several degree mills, ignores the fact that practicing medicine without a license is already illegal everywhere. Having an unaccredited degree in no way correlates with criminal conduct. If by "pre-internet" he means some 30 years old and obsolete, this also is irrelevant because today degrees are easily verified online by employers and existing regulatory agencies. It is pure sophistry for Klempner to repeat these lies about fake doctors running rampant to justify destruction of a free market in higher education.

You wouldn't think anyone would need to remind Klempner and Gollum of the old Yiddish saying, "a half truth is a total lie."

They keep repeating the tale of the fake doctor with the fake degree who killed somebody.  This would be in distinction apparently to all the real doctors with real degrees who kill people every day without either of them saying a word.

As noted by the responder, practicing medicine without a license is illegal, regardless of whether you have a fake degree or a real degree.

It's like saying Charles Manson killed all those people and he has tattoos, so let's ban tattoos and we won't have to worry about that any more.

Obviously Klempner has something else on his agenda, namely protecting his new best friends--the wealthy higher education cartel--from cut rate competitors like he used to be.
