Let's say you were a bored college professor in a meaningless, dead end job, with a lot of time on your hands and nothing to do. Let's say that to kill time you decided to pretend that your community service obligation required you to stick your big nose into somebody else's business to ruin their lives and make yourself feel important.
Now in the relative scheme of things, which of these two things would be the sort of thing you would feel a moral obligation to investigate and deter?
a) a business where willing customers buy pieces of paper to hang on their walls, to make themselves feel good, and maybe get a little better job and life, or
b) a business that sells dangerous genetic mutant lab animals to the public for consumption as food, in violation of FDA regs?
Well, just for the sake of argument, let's assume that these two things are roughly equal in sparking your moral outrage. Now which one of these nefarious enterprises would you figure you would be able to make the most difference in thwarting?
a) one operated clandestinely, primarily in foreign countries, frequently by gangsters, almost always lawfully in the country of choice and usually outside the reach of US authorities, or
b) one operated by your wife in a public building a block down the street from yours, that had been cited by US government agents for illegal activities?
Now seriously, is all this diploma mill hunting really a "community service," or is it more along the lines of "creating a diversion" so people don't notice what sort of illegal activities his wife is up to?????
