Ignore Klempner and his "trade book" nonsense. He doesn't want you to get a doctorate because he knows that you would outshine him and the rest of his no-talent clones at every turn. With your extensive background of achievement in distance learning, you will be
the recognized expert who takes over the scene when Klempner kicks. He knows your libertarian politics will quickly render obsolete all his socialist agenda, and kick losers like Gollum to the curb.
When price is the only issue, South Africa is the only answer. Jimmy, you have the patience to deal with their convoluted system, and the smarts to make a great contribution to your field.

I hope that Jimmy goes for it as well.
However, it sounds like he may have decided that his heart really isn't in it, and if that's the case then he should follow his heart and be comfortable with his decision.
I would like to point out that Jack "the Kipper" Tracey provided no worthwhile advice to Jimmy despite his experience with South African doctoral programs. Jack should just stick to providing links.

It's interesting how different people use different methods in making important life-course decisions. Some keep their own counsel, others ask family and loved ones who might be affected by the decision.
Then there are the Jimmies of the world, who poll a marginalized collection of slack-jawed yokels like that which populates DD.
Not surprisingly, he gets less-than-useless advice from the likes of Jack the Kipper. And not surprisingly after observing Jimmy all these years, he seems to follow it.

After months, actually years, of trying to decide on a doctoral degree program at an accredited institution of higher learning, I have decided that paying anywhere from $18,000 to $40,000 is just too much for me at this stage of my life.
Therefore, I have decided to enroll in the South African Theological Seminary's PhD in practical theology program with a concentration in either pastoral counseling or child counseling. The proposed dissertation will study the integration of biblical principles with psychological theories in the treatment of post traumatic stress disorder in children.
At only $2400 per year, this is a real bargain.
