It looks like Rich Douglas has decided to toot his own horn and give himself a pat on the back. I'm suitably impressed.

Grocery Store managers at one of the largest privately owned grocery chains in the United States make over $120k per year. They all start from the ground (baggers, clerk, warehouse) and up but you can make that kind of money after 7-10yrs or by the time they are 28. That being said, that grocery store manager has already made over $1mil more than the student who just finished grad school in their late 20's/early 30's. It is quite possible the future grad student may never catch up to the lowly grocery store manager who lives 5 mins down the street and is home every day at 5:05pm and looks at milfs all day long and takes the camper out every month. Not the worst life ever for a high school grad...

Which just goes to show that (a) Doogle doesn't know what he's talking about (again), and (b) the condescending attitude of the faux intelligentsia toward working people. As Stanley & Danko detailed in The Millionaire Next Door, it's these humble, industrious people living below their means who constitute the economic backbone of the country, not fat ass government paper shufflers.

Bomber Douglas Wrote:Instead, his education led him (so far) to a GS-15 (step 10) on top of a military retirement. That's, um, a lot more. Just one hypothetical example. Are we talking about a retired Air Force captain (O-3) by any chance? And a GS-15, step 10 in the Federal government? Probably about 2,000/month from the military retirement and, as for the Fed civilian, let's take a look at the link. http://www.opm.gov/oca/10tables/pdf/gs.pdf

Doogle apparently wants the entire world to know what he am making (which, of course, would be distinct from what he am actually earning).
According to the OPM, a GS-15 step 10 in the DC area is paid $155,500 in 2010. http://www.opm.gov/oca/10tables/indexGS.asp http://www.opm.gov/oca/10tables/pdf/DCB.pdf According to The Inflation Calculator, $155,500 in 2009 was worth only $60,506.41 in 1980. http://www.westegg.com/inflation/infl.cgi His salary seems to be more a product of inflation and profligate government spending than any merit related to either his education or job performance. Having reached your maximum economic level of Peter Principle incompetence doesn’t seem like something to brag about. |
