That`s a post I made on degreediscussion.com in response to levicoff on July 14:

Levicoff, if you quote "raca" from the Bible, please take more care to be exact. Raca for example occurs in the Greek text of Mt. 5:22 but is not a Greek but an original Aramaic word (the Greek word would most likely be moros ). The original meaning of Aramaic Raca could be rendered more precisely as "a brainless person who is incapable of life because of that"...lol. Now, fool would not be the appropriate English translation as there is much more in the original meaning of that Aramaic word. To whom you or I may apply this term is a question that I want to leave undebated here as this seems to be too much far-off topic...lol.

In return, I got the follwing reply from a Jimmy poster on July 14:

Actaully, Mr. Schmidt, a number of Assyrian scholars state that "Raca" means "I spit on you."

In the footline of his post, the Jimmy poster has this text:
True evangelical faith cannot lie dormant. It clothes the naked, feeds the hungry, comforts the sorrowful, shelters the destitute, serves those that harm it and binds up that which is wounded. Menno Simons
Jimmy
BTW, that "Jimmy" poster is confusing "Assyrian Studies" with the Aramaic of the New Testament period. Where did "Jimmy" say he got his degree from?
That's the kind of level that pretend scholars at degreediscussion.com use to communicate. Is that something one could call "brainless" and really is non-scholarly-like?

"Jimmy" is the Rev. Jimmy Clifton and he's an ally of Bill Grover and the late Rev. Weaver-Hudson. He has several unaccredited degrees, one accredited degree and a certificate in locksmithing from some DL vocational institute. He is also some type of therapist or social worker and involved with his church as a part time pastor. If you guessed that he's old and has one foot in the grave you'd be right. Some of the posters here like him for whatever reason. I don't, I think that he's an asshole.

Assyrian is Aramaic 2,500 years later.? Now what was English like 2,500 years ago??
The exact connotation of a 2,500 year old expression is pretty iffy.? Obviously the word was derived from spit but what did the expression exactly mean?
If I said Jimmy is a shit-head I am alluding to the fact that his head functions like it is stuffed with shit not brains.? I have the full understanding that in all liklihood it is not stuffed with shit although you can never be too sure, especially in Jimmy's case.? I'd love to see the scholars in 2,500 years decipher the expression "Jimmy is a shithead."

Thanks for the info on "Jimmy". I am sure this guy is not aware of the disctinction between Assyrian Studies and NT Aramaic. As a social worker, he may be a total failure considering his tone.

The "etymology" of that less respectable reverend regarding RACA in the sense of "I spit on you" is not supported by facts and was meant to be insult. Forget about his unscholarly "interpretation"....lol.

FYO, Assyrian is an extinct language as largely Aramaic is. Yet, there a still some small linguistic islands in Israel and probably also in Syria - in some villages, they still speak a kind of Aramaic as it used was used by the time of Jesus. Interesting....
Old English is also a "dead" language....

I have a special Hebrew-Aramaic etymological dictionary to look it up for you if there is any entry on that at all. If I find something, I will post the result here tomorrow.
But it is unlikely that with a distance of 2,500 years such linguistic cognates remain intact regarding word stem and its associated meaning.
Just for fun, I will try to look up the English etymology for "shithead" as well in an Etymological English Dictionary. I would be surprised to find a relevant entry there...lol.

Poor Jimmy apparently believes he can do more of the Lord's work amongst the reprobates and frauds at DD than in the company of normal people. Problem for him is that he keeps waking up with fleas. I don't think he is inherently shitheaded, but it seems to be contagious and there are lots of carriers over there.

Actually 2,000 - brain fart. Hebrew was spoken until about 2,500 years ago in Palestine.
