"shit":
Old English scite for "dung", scitan "to defacate", of Germanic origin. Related to Old English sceadan "to separate" (Modern High German "scheiden" with "sc" Old English and Modern German "sch" to be pronounced like "sh" in Modern English). Other Germanic cognates are skita in Old Norse for "defecate", and Middle Dutch schitte for "excrement".
"shithead":
a newly coined term in contemporary English, no usage of this term attested in earlier forms of English (Old and Middle English or earlier Germanic dialects).
NOUN Taboo slang " a fool, idiot". Used a s a term of abuse.
Data taken from:
Collins English Dictionary, 6th ed., 2003. Observations on Old English cognate "sceadan" in relation to Modern German "scheiden" ("to separate") are my own.
Comment:
Interesting, this sense connection between "excrements", "defecate" and "separate". In physcial terms, the body "separates" (sceadan) what is not needed any longer and is left at a place where all people are equal and where all of us have to go from time to time (equality of people existing at least there....lol), and a shithead separates from the rest of the world as a fool, the latter not being an instance of where all people are equal.
It is funny what language actually can do and how it works at times. This is a free lesson for all the esteemed "scholars" like Jimmy, Levicoff, and Grover to read. This forum here provides them with the real enlightenment because darkness and ignorance seem to persist at degreediscussion.com. Let's help them a bit....lol.
I will add my poor, "unscholarly" comments on raca later this day if I can find some data on that.
