It might not be a really good idea to pick a fight with the guys around here. I know I don't want to.
I really have no idea how many visitors there are; does it matter?
Yes, it does since the number of visitors is a proxy for site's influence in the field. If you are going to have some type of counting and reporting mechanism for "visitors" it should accurate, or it should be removed. To do otherwise is inherently dishonest and detracts from the real discussion of distance education issues.

We just did. Have a nice day!
I see it all too clearly now....you hate me because the cyber-counter-clicker isn't working up to your expectations.

Isn't working up to
my expectations? No, I would compare it to an improperly calibrated gasoline pump. It is a material misrepresentation and once the responsible party has been notified, failure to remedy or post a disclaimer is borderline fraud. The intent may not be to deceive but that is its net effect.
This site is about the TRUTH in the DL universe ... and unfortunately it can sometimes get ugly but it's nothing personal.

I still can't get why anyone (programmers, site owners, whatever ) would fake or dope stats, membership etc...

So why get so personal and make such angry and hate-filled comments about me??????

Was the purpose of this thread an underhanded trick to get new members (from among online.degree.net members) and inflate the DL Truth membership list?

I suppose none really looses his sleep over fake website stats (if any, I have no idea ).
What purpose would adding a few members serve?
A forum may have 10.000 members on paper...and ten people who make 30...50...80% of all the posts, the rest being lurkers, left-behind monikers or spam-bot aliases.
I know of one once famous forum where the owner and the 'super-moderator' (whom I think are the same person ) made 45% of all the posts...

Other than advertisers, few people care about the stats - except Little Arminius. My question was actually a dig at him.

there was a once prominent forum that was a hit many years back; now it's a dead place...yet the membership keeps increasing, and the counter gives at times stats like '50 users [not guests] online'...
If you visit the page listing new members, you'll learn a lesson from their names: camz-babez...travel-cheap...rolekzreplicas4u...hornyguyviagraonline...

Johann and ShotoJuku, if he can take time away from his mod duties at his 3,000 member mega-forum, are welcome here, of course. We don't have a large number of members but do have a wide range of views on DL and other education issues. That being said, it gets a little rough and egos can get bruised if you don't check them at the door.
There haven't been very many posters banned from here.
