Bear boasting about textbook offers, consultant gig

Jack (a/k/a Jack Tracey, Jack the Ripper) posts a link at DD concerning the outrageous increase in the cost of textbooks since 1986. Typical Jack, he has gotten too lazy to even post so he uses links more and more frequently. It is easier than trying to think up something relevant to post.

Carl Reginstein, the radical left-wing civil servant from West Virginia, takes that as an opportunity to call the current funding system for higher education in the U.S. a "disgrace." He then slides in a comment about money that has been diverted into the "black hole" of K-12 education as well as into "prisons to lock up the uneducated." Typical silly left-wing nonsense - a lot of the funding that has gone into the "correctional system" has gone for better facilities, better pay and benefits for employees (always unsung heroes), and for increased "correctional" programs to reduce recidivism. But Reginstein, a hypocritical, two-faced phony if there ever was one, has never let the facts get in the way of some DesElms-type rant.

That was annoying enough, but Bear then let's loose with some story about an offer to write a text, the lowball offer by the greedy publisher, his clever agent/lawyer's counter-offer, the inside story of the textbook publishing industry and how lucrative his outside consultant business is at present. He then casually throws out that he has been offered a part-time teaching job at a nearby university next summer on fantastic terms.  Big Grin

Check this thread in a couple of days. Maybe Douglas will post and tell everyone, yet again, how much he is "pulling down"? I have come to the conclusion that the primary motivation of the RA-only fanatics for participating in this arena (DL) is to stroke their own egos and, in a few cases, to put money in their pockets.
