John was lazy and cheap. He did little research and really didn't give a damn how good or bad they were. If he was right, ok. If he was wrong, too bad. That's your problem. And it was very much a problem when he started going to AED and supporting the silly things Levicoff and the like were preaching. Bear provided the cover for them to attack people who had bought the guides and used the schools Bear had told us were good.
I can only guess that he didn't think people would bother to go back and check to see if he was telling the truth. Of course had he not started telling the story so very differently, others, like myself, probably wouldn't have even bothered doing a truth check.
