This is like one of those supposed tests for the "truly cultured person." Like can you listen to the William Tell Overture and not think of the Lone Ranger? Or can you listen to the 1812 Overture and not think of Quaker Oats ("this is the cereal that's shot from guns!)
So when someone says "Life is a journey, not a destination" do you think of that Aerosmith song or Ralph Waldo Emerson?
It would be hard for me to take the advice of a guy with "Waldo" in his name, but I could probably get behind Steven Tyler. Wasn't he (Tyler) also the guy who said "anything worth doing is worth overdoing"?
Anyway, the gist of the "life is a journey" thing seems to be that goals can sometimes blind you to the real joys of life.
Sounds like Rich found some pretty good targets and, to his credit, he hit them. It's good to have a college degree, it's good to have a graduate degree, it's good to have a doctorate. Lots of pieces of paper to prove you aren't the idiot you otherwise might appear to be.
Does he have kids? Does he have a loving family? Does he go to church or watch his kids play sports or participate in community activities? Or does he spend all his spare time ripping on people on the internet? To me it looks like he's busy knocking down the other kids' sand castles instead of building his own. Small wonder he finds his direction in life so unsatisfying.
