I'd be tempted to say "Gollin has lost it," but in order to lose it one must first have it.
Gollin got run off his own university website by his bosses. He can't manage on his own, he needs help, lots of help, at least 15 "collaborators" so he can get anything useful done. Look how he "collaborates" with Contreras, McCollum, Zurlini--he can't do anything by himself. He tried it once, he fucked it up, now he needs someone to carry him.
Imagine being so fucked up you need Gus the 110-Day Wonder and his humanities BA to carry your water for you. Gollin's like an idiot savant, except he's running out of steam on the savant part. "Yar har, Ashford is Belford. Ashwood is Belwood. Dixie is still in jail, I'm still relevant."
He holds himself out to the world as an "expert," he tells any media outlet that will listen that he is an "authority," but when people ask him simple, direct questions he doesn't answer and has his friends ban the questioners.
