That pretty much explains the texture and extent of internet relationships. I was once asked to moderate a quiescent forum and I only accepted because I hate spammers and clogging sites with their cheap viagra etc.
At some point a brutal feud erupts from nowhere...the site owner is nowhere to be reached and the other moderator tells me plainly that he has problems & cannot be bothered.
The usual feud between forum cliques and their employers soon escalated into posting of obscene pictures and of avalanches of inflammatory threads.
After trying to reason sorted no effect, I took out the garbage.
When the owner returned much later, it seemed I had done him disservice because he apparently had to heed blackmail from god knows who, god knows why.
Shortly disgruntled trolls were hailing me as power-thirsty bully, while the person/site I had not defended (because I took no part in handling the specific allegations ) but indeed served went around telling people -behind my back- that I was out of control or something...even if I had sent a dozen email/messages to the owner, which he had ignored.
So I stand there like the complete idiot I was having made enemies, and with so-called friends who pretended I had gotten all wrong.
What for?
The question was about accusing the site/owner of posting materials that exposed certain people as part of a conspiracy run by third parties...none of which I had the remotest clue about...but shortly rumor had it that I was the bad site owner and that the materials that had started it all were my own concoction...with the foreseeable consequence of personal threats directed against me.
You never stop learning, and I did learn: I resigned from the position and made a vow to never accept another under any circumstances...does a site become a dead junkyard clogged with cheap viagra spam...? Well, too bad: if owners don't care, why would I? Are they busy? So am I...I have no idea whether they make a dime out of their websites...maybe so, maybe not...I certainly don't, so why would I get involved?
