The TUI Alumni Newsletter has a similar explanation:
Quote:TUIU is no longer affiliated with Touro College in any way and thus the name has been changed to TUI University (TUI), which in Latin means “your choice” or “best choice”.http://www.tuiu.edu/alumni/AlumniNewsletter20080331.pdf
I'm no Latin scholar, but that sounds like Merda Taurorum to me. The beer thing definitely has more play. Consider the alternatives:
Q: What's up with that name? WTF is a TUI?
A: It's Latin for "your choice."
Q: You mean it's Latin for a f*cking load of egghead bullsh*t.
Q: What's up with that name? WTF is a TUI?
A: The Jews sold it to some Kiwis, who named it after their favorite beer.
Q: Awesome dude! Can you get me a sweatshirt?
