Why does White Anglo-Saxon Calgary have a serious flood with 100,000 people evacuated with almost a complete lack of drama? As far as can be determined only 3 people died being swept away by a river and only 1,500 people showed up at emergency shelters provided. No Superdome disaster - no FEMA death camps. Go figure.
Calgarians, for the most part, are quite wealthy with multiple vehicles to get out of Dodge and motorhomes to live in or at least a credit card to rent a room. They also have this thing called friends and relatives to bunk with.
I suspect society in New Orleans broke down because it was broken long before Katrina.

Is it racial, cultural, economic, or some combination thereof? It seems reasonable to expect that if two-thirds of a given population are uneducated, drug-addled welfare cases the scale of disaster will be substantially larger than if two-thirds or more are educated, resourceful and self-reliant.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police are fucking fascist pigs. Solving crimes against people and property is secondary to criminalizing honest hard working taxpayers. They freely employ violence and kill way too many unarmed people and cover it up by lying. Then the video comes out and they pay no penalty. One was charged with have sexual relations with 8 of his subordinates. His penalty was simply transferring to a different province regardless of the fact that the Criminal Code of Canada equates sexual relations with those over whom an individual has overwhelming influence as equivalent to rape. They are simply pigs.
If someone has his guns stored in the basement and he is getting flooded, he is going to move them to dry ground, probably high up on the highest floor. Possession should be akin to ownership so they should all be returned. There is no proof of ownership as the Canadian gun registry records were destroyed after the current government shut it down. One is still required to have a possession license so perhaps they might want to have a friend with them who has one. Prime Minister Harper was really pissed off by his jackbooted thugs.
The RCMP are Canada's federal police and by contract the provincial police of 8 of 10 provinces and local police in most of the small communities in these 8 provinces. Did I say they were fucking pigs?
