I think they prefer to donate their time, especially if it's away from class, while at the same time enjoying that cash flow from dummy-/ Mommie and Poppie. Isn't it so funny to see the parents supporting these little darlings as they jump around the country showing how much they love the people, and how they still find the time and the room to carry their nice clothes and electronic toys with them. While they are there of course they MUST party and play to sort of unwind from all that pressure the poor and tired place on them.
I saw a report on local TV about some of the young students who are coming there to help, Mississippi and Louisiana. One older veteran of these things said a few of them actually have some skills that can be used but most just want to sit around holding the victims hands, feeling their pain. What we need, he said, is people who are willing to roll up their sleeves, get dirty, and help with the work. We need people who know how to use tools, hammers, skill saws, people who are accustomed to hard work. We have all the people we need right now who stand around and watch.
