Who knows, maybe he thought America was exactly as on TV: sleazy college women going to bed with whoever asks and is exotic enough...the land of plenty...you know the stupid juvenile movies and sitcoms that are exported worldwide...in only 93' the Michael J. Fox from nowhere character is in bed with the hottest gal of his choice; flies in a company jet; wins a karate tournament; monkeys around with more best friends than he can shake a stick at or whatever...
It turns out life is different from the movies...he asked for a refund on the ticket...in his own way.
