Online I/O Psych Programs Viewed Less Favorably

One of the keys to a great topic, discussion, or paper is that it often creates more questions and possibilities then it originally answers. Thus, is the problem in research in an attempt to answer one simple question many more variables and questions arise (if the paper hit its mark and made its readers think).

I believe the authors did a great job starting us off with a stepping stone for future discussions and research. I only hope that the reader keeps in mind that no research paper will ever satisfy every individuals multitude of questions there is a reason for limiting research and the tools used to find answers (surveys) to a few specifics. If we did not put in place limits then this article could be hundreds of pages long and the survey required to collect such data would likely be equally as long thereby ensuring no one would read the results much less participate in the survey.

I am working my way into the field as I now wrap up a 20 year career in the U.S. Military. I look forward to seeing more research on this matter in the future as it is one reason I put my degree on hold since the most viable option for me has been online education.

Of course I planned ahead a little by selecting a college that carries a well known name even is it isn't really a part of its name sake (hoping name recognition would help dispell a small portion of the negativity "shrug").

I also wonder at what point real world experience negates these findings if at all? Say someone accepts 10-25k less in their first year because of no internship or because they attended an online U, where would they stand then in regards to applying for a job? Also as even the Ivy colleges break into online classes does the Name of the University matter more than other factors? What would ones chances be obtaining a job if they completed an online masters program from Yale (fictional) VRs a F2F or brick and mortar say small Mississippi backyard U?

Again, let me thank the authors for providing us with the cerebral grease to get those wheels turning! Hopefully if I can wade through retiring at a nice young age from serving my country, and get myself into a good program I'll see you all in many more discussions.
