I agree that in the 1960s, a doctorate in communications was not as academically strong as many others. Perhaps that is still the case. I might have put it in quotation marks myself. Since my intent then was university teaching I wanted as academically-demanding a degree as I could find. That is why I chose NOT to do a doctorate. in communications.
