ECOLE SUPERIEURE ROBERT DE SORBON (UNIVERSITE): fine for fraud by French court

A Google translation, for those of us who don't habla the frog lingo:

School Robert de Sorbon: the director sentenced
15/10/2011 05:32

The founder of this private school, formerly based in Trimouille and issuing degrees without providing courses, was convicted of fraud.

Christian Prade, 64, loud and assurance that the university claims to be. Former of the extreme-right West and co-founder in 1968 of GUD, the student movement for breaking the leftist, it is by no means impressed by the criminal court, a prosecution for fraud. French justice, he knows. In the 90s, he has been convicted of embezzlement against URSSAF and tax, to four years in prison (never purged and prescribed today).

VAE American sauce

Now Franco-American (he took across the Atlantic as John Thomas) Christian Prade was recycled in education. More precisely the business of international credentials. On both sides of the Atlantic, he created an intricate network of institutions to allow non-graduates get through the validation of acquired experience, a parchment which may open the doors of a university.

School Robert de Sorbon still works

In this nebula, the Graduate School University Robert de Sorbon is that which concerns the justice of Poitou, before which Christian Prade appeared Thursday. Why Poitiers? Because at the time when the authorities of Education began to wonder about the strange school activities on behalf subtly evoking the prestigious Sorbonne, its official headquarters was a farmhouse Trimouille.

This is where the police in early 2007 discovered the lack of room teaching in the fields. And for good reason: the unique activity of the school was (and remains, since the latter, now based in Vendeuvre-lès-Nancy, still works) to receive diplomas upon deliberation of a jury, on payment a € 550 right

machine to recycle

The subtlety of the system was to give some credence to scraps of paper issued on application by passing in a juicy recycling machine called AUAP, based in Sarasota, Florida. Amusing detail: if the school Robert de Sorbon is led by American John Thomas, AUAP is drivée by the French ... Christian Prade!
AUAP Mission: to validate the application of the various American universities diplomas awarded worldwide. We guess that the pseudo-degrees of Robert de Sorbon enjoyed all the kindness of AUAP. The fault lay in the name of degrees: license, master's, doctorates: one as many titles as National Education and institutions are authorized by law to issue. Today, moreover, the School Robert de Sorbon awards do more than "certificates."

No complaint

But it is true that none of the "graduates" has complained: "Go to a Venezuelan explain what it means to bring civil actions in Poitiers, there will understand nothing," sighs the Attorney Eric Virbel. It claimed and obtained the conviction of Christian Prade heavy fine: € 15,000. The court does not order the publication of this judgment, requested by the prosecutor, or any professional prohibition against the condemned. Robert de Sorbon retain the right to graduate whom he pleases.

Not that this translation helps explain too much about any of this, although this likely is the fault of the article's author rather than the translation. Sounds like Prade's biggest "crime" is his political viewpoint, not anything to do with his business.

More about the Occident group (translated as "West") referenced in the article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occident_(movement)

More about the GUD group referenced in the article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Groupe_Union_Droit

Considering that he awards degrees based on PLA (which appears to be perfectly legal in France), it seems irrelevant whether he operates out of a barn or a cupboard instead of 10,000 acre campus with a faculty lounge, student union and football field.
