I read an honest guy online who typed he was tired of bumming around and decided to make something of himself joining the army.
How such individuals could morph upon discharge into Commando characters is unknown to me.
And as far as I know, real, high powered 'counterintelligence agents' keep that to themselves...
What if former fiends in Latin America decided to get even?
But perhaps in the famous UK base where they broke the German code there were cooks and drivers and people who took the garbage out, who probably later bragged how they defeated the entire German army single handedly.
How comes that if Barney squeals on Pedro the dope ring boss, he must be given a new identity not to end on the inside of a sausage...and this "Special Agent investigating counterintelligence matters critical to the success of the US Southern Commands Mission in Central America." can toot his horn about it?
Weren't the veterans in Commando given false identities?
PFFT!

There would have been thousands of US Army personnel operating in Central America in the 1980s and 1990s involved in training and intelligence.  A great victory against the dirty pinko commies happened at the time in El Salvador and Guatamela and the American supported Contras helped end the the reign of the dirty pinko commies in Nicaragua.  As far as secret identities go, maybe they used them but the region has been pacified for 15 - 20 years and I don't think potential "friends" would worry about one lowly ranked US soldier among thousands that were in theatre.  The importance of his own mission might seem be slightly overstated but I'm sure it's reasonably accurate.

I drank beer in the Legion with a supposed intelligence person in the peacetime Canadian Army.  Apparently the gave him medals for his heroic actions but then immediately took them back because the mission in Vietnam was secret.  Now that's BS.  He also recited the plot of "Navy Seals" with himself as a central character.  As UN observers in Vietnam, Canada spied for the US but took no part in the war.
