I once worked for a man like Bear, during my high school years (part-time work). The guy had found God, well, sort of. He sold used cars and I helped wash and clean them up. He tried to avoid answering the questions the people would ask. It was hilarious to watch customers trying to pin him down, and him trying to not out and out lie.
Does it use oil? I haven't checked it lately.
Is the transmission good? It seems to run pretty good for an old car.
Is this the real millage? It's a low mileage car.
Is the engine in good shape? I drove it to town and back just yesterday.
He would answer by not answering what they asked. You could ask him what time of day it was and he would tell you about what kind of watch he had. The guy was really a lying thief who even tried to cheat me. He bought an old car for $500, I was there when he bought it. A few weeks later I was interested and asked him what he would take for the car. He told me he had about a thousand dollars in it and being as it was me I could have it for $1500. Needless to say I passed on this wonderful deal.
Ask Bear if it's raining and he will tell you about the value of rain and by the way.....Want to buy an umbrella? There is a shop just down the corner that sells wonderful umbrellas. (His wife runs the shop....of course).
When you buy from Honest John's near-college experience degrees or from Honest Ed's Fine used Cars, guess what? you will get the inevitable royal screwing, but look at the bright side. Old Ed and John have a fine retirement based on having sold you what best suited their needs and NOT yours.
What kind of man sells you advice that leads you to HIS business? John Bear--that's who. Now if that ain't being slick as snot I don't know what is. You got to admire a man who can sell you a tapeworm for weight loss and then sell you the cure for tapeworms.
