Joe Weider was the public face of the company and his brother ran much of the behind the scenes operation. I do know that Arnold and Lou Ferrigno always credited Joe with making bodybuilding more mainstream and tremendously increasing its popularity. I'm not so sure Joe received equal criticism for his failure to adequately control the steroid use by IFBB bodybuilders. He should have because the IFBB turned a blind eye to rampant steroid abuse for far too long. Joe had been a weightlifter and bodybuilder himself and knew that the freakish look (size with cuts) that emerged from the 1970s onward was only possible due to drugs.
I'm fine with that as well as Ben's obituary. It was Janko's quote in German and his reference to post-mortem (homo)sexual activity that threw me. Of course, Johann will loudly accuse DL Truth of "slagging people about their sexual orientation" (his words) but won't say a word about Uncle J's disgusting comments.
