George D. Gollin (born May 6, 1953 in New York) is a physics professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Areas of research and teaching
Gollin has worked on particle physics experiments studying muon scattering (1975–1981, intended to test the ideas of "Quantum Chromodynamics"), neutral K meson decay parameters (1980–1993, measuring things relating to "CP violation" ), and electron-positron annihilation (1993–2005, measuring production and decay properties of heavy quarks). His current research focuses on technical issues associated with the design and construction of the "International Linear Collider", a very large electron-positron colliding beams facility intended to shed light on the origins of the masses of the fundamental particles.

His teaching has spanned the entire physics curriculum, from elementary algebra-based courses for students in the life sciences to classical electrodynamics at the graduate level.


Other public service
The University of Illinois is a public university and "land grant school"; as such, Gollin's responsibilities include faculty public service in addition to his teaching and research obligations.[1] Since 2003, Gollin has been documenting the practices of diploma mills, businesses that sell meaningless academic degrees without providing education or assessment to/of their customers. In this capacity, he has worked with a number of state and federal agencies, including the State of Washington Office of the Attorney General, the U.S. Dept. of Education, the U.S. Secret Service, and the Swedish National Agency for Higher Education.[2] It was reported in The Chronicle of Higher Education that "Alan Contreras, administrator for the Oregon Office of Degree Authorization, called the professor's work 'superb'." [3] He has, for example, assisted with the federal investigation of the operation of the alleged diploma mill Saint Regis University.[4] This investigation resulted in closing down the large operation and the arrest of the individuals that were allegedly involved.[5]

In 2006 he was elected to the Board of Directors of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation for a three year term.


Controversy
A spokesman for Gollin's employer has stated that UIUC does not view his research into diploma mills as meeting the institution's public-service requirement since the work is not related to physics, his area of expertise. [6] This contradicts Gollin's self-serving statement above.


Ironically, Gollin's own doctoral degree was obtained under suspect circumstances. Gollin submitted as his individual work a doctoral dissertation co-authored with fifteen (15) other people. Princeton's policy concerning doctoral dissertations is that the work must be independent, not collaborative. [7] Gollin admits his work was collaborative, and hence on its face violative of Princeton's academic policies. Compare Gollin's dissertation with research paper with 16 co-authors.


Gollin's wife, UIUC administrator Melanie Loots, was cited by federal investigators for her role in selling genetically mutated pork for human food in violation of federal health laws.[8][9]


Gollin failed to prevent a fellow UIUC professor from engaging in a homosexual relationship with a student, mass murderer Steven Kazmierczak, before Kazmierczak killed five students and wounded more than 15 others. [10]


When UIUC forced Gollin to remove his offensive website, he sent his scandalous materials to Alan Contreras, an adjudicated civil rights violator and admitted homosexual.[11][12]


Gollin formerly was a prolific (1,280 posts)[13] participant on a discussion forum that was discovered to be a front for pedophile-pandering gay boy pornography.[14] Gollin stopped posting there but has never made any public statement opposing the website owner's prurient activities.


Gollin's daughter maintains two filthy internet blogs where she reveals, among other things, that she is a lesbian, that she listens to the "suck my dick fuck my ass song" with her father George Gollin, and that her mother, UIUC administrator Melanie Loots, refers to Catholics as "dirty Papists." [15]


Gollin made a public death threat against five people by publishing a document with a rifle sight graphic similar to that used by the Zodiac Killer adjacent to the names of his intended victims.[16]
