Who Does This Describe?

Out in the world people think that a degree from an Ivy League school is the key to riches. Wrong. People who do well are already rich. They only way you advance in the class structure is with cash. The poor minority kid is groomed to shine the shoes of the Kennedys, not to be the Kennedys.

Gollin's family obviously didn't have tons of excess money because he's teaching undergrads at a state run school. I've done that without Ivy League and without a PhD. I guess there's the possibility that there is family money and he simply is a scew-up.

Believe it or not, in my old days I had A+ academic references for LSE & Oxbridge [ I just was on friendly terms with professors who wrote references; I'm not a Nobel outcast ].
Well, I investigated the matter and found that Oxbridge typically require to pay double tuition (to the university body corporate and to the college you are attached to ), which was just nonsense because research means being busy in archives and/or reading documents, plus my research deals with nothing English, for which I might require Oxbridge archives.
Later I learnt about a thing called 'high table', which I remembered from my days in a private Catholic school run by nuns I was glad to be out of.
Short it seemed they wanted you to pay dearly for the scenery and the 'prestige'.
Therefore I went distance learning...much cheaper and effective. As i said, one cannot expect much from any teacher/tutor/supervisor, whether online or B&M...celebrity teachers have bigger fishes to fry than your little, unimportant self; bulk teachers are probably flooded with teaching and administrative deadlines; teaching assistants or 'chargés de cours' are just lame a$$ students like yourself, most of the time...
however
I at least know I'm not squandering my welfare or disability cheque.
