There's only two answers here.

a) Gollin and/or his 15 pals wrote his dissertation, or

Not to put too fine a point on it, but that's like a bunch of answers rolled into one.

a. Gollin wrote it all by himself
b. All of Gollin's 15 pals wrote it, but not Gollin
c. One or more of the 15 pals, but not all of them, wrote it, but not Gollin
d. Gollin and all his 15 pals wrote it together
e. Gollin and one or more of his 15 pals, but not all of them, wrote it

It seems likely it's d, but b seems like a strong possible too. The least likely answer is a, given that the same paper shows 16 authors 8 months later.

But as you say, judging from the general level of big-heartedness and charity that Gollin extends to others (i.e., none) it's a hard sell that he was giving away authorship credit as freely as the condoms his daughter hands out at school.?

We don't wanna be assholes like George Gollin (George D. Gollin, George Dana Gollin) and accuse the slimy scumbag of something dishonorable based only on speculation, wishful thinking, innuendo and mob action.

The facts speak for themselves. It looks like he and 15 others wrote his dissertation, which was supposed to be his independent work. No one needs to accuse him of anything.

Unless all 15 of the others swear on their mothers they didn't have a thing to do with the dissertation and explain in detail what new contribution each made to the subsequent article, Gollin is full of shit. George Gollin (George D. Gollin, George Dana Gollin) is a complete and total academic fraud in my opinion. Let him prove otherwise, if he can.
