As long as they maintain sufficient academic standards that can garner enough respect to get graduates academic jobs at community colleges and 4th tier universities, what more is needed?
I don't disagree with that at all. The 100% DL RA doctorate is revolutionary, and a successful program here could be a boon to development of similar programs elsewhere.
Nobody ever said NCU was Harvard, or even Union. The problem is that they set the bar as low as humanly possible and still can't reach it. They aren't maintaining academic standards, they aren't maintaining administrative standards, and they aren't maintaining financial standards. As a result they presently aren't garnering much respect from anyone, and the NCACS in particular.
Consider that WASC is one of the stricter accreditation agencies, and they let a crap school like New College wallow on sanction for 17 of the last 27 years before dumping it, and only then for financial reasons. Just how bad must NCU be if they can only muster the minimum 3 year extension (out of 10 max) from NCACS, the most lenient of all accreditors?
The written report on this will be a real eye-opener, I do believe. If I had to bet, I'd say it was three years to let NCU teach out the remaining doctoral students, then NCACS will make them dump the program altogether and go back to square one.
