WASHINGTON — Ann Callis, the Democratic Party's favored candidate for Congress in the 13th Congressional District, Tuesday reported a $370,175 campaign treasury, including more than $240,000 collected in the last three months.
Callis, a former Madison County judge, has about $100,000 more on hand than Champaign physicist George Gollin, another Democratic candidate in the 13th District.
The third Democratic hopeful, David Green, also of Champaign, said he would not file a report with the Federal Election Commission because he had not yet raised $5,000.
The trio of Democrats hope to unseat U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis, a freshman Republican from Taylorville. The 13th District sweeps across central Illinois from Champaign-Urbana on the northeast to Collinsville and Edwardsville on the southwest.
Callis said she had received $183,535 in contributions from individuals, $1,082 from political parties and more than $56,000 from political action committees.
Her PAC contributions included $10,000 each from Sen. Dick Durbin's Prairie PAC, New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand's Off the Sidelines PAC and Maryland Rep. Steny Hoyer's AmeriPAC.
Callis also got $7,650 from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, $2,000 from former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, $3,500 from Rep. Steve Israel's New York Jobs PAC, $5,000 from Florida Rep. Patrick Murphy's PEM PAC, and $2,500 from a New York PAC known as Tri-State Maxed Out Women.
Labor unions also gave heavily to Callis: $5,000 from an electrical workers local in Washington, D.C., a machinists local in Upper Marlboro, Md., and the United Food and Commercial Workers International in Washington, D.C., and $1,000 from a boilermakers union local in Kansas City.
Callis also got $36,924 through Emily's List, a political action committee that supports pro-abortion rights female Democrats. William Daley, the one-time Democratic gubernatorial candidate from Chicago, also gave her $500. And former University of Illinois basketball star and business executive Mannie Jackson, now of Las Vegas, contributed $500.49.
Although both of her Democratic opponents are from Champaign, Callis got several thousand dollars in contributions from Champaign County: $550 from Champaign County Board member Astrid Berkson of Champaign, $450 from Steve Cox of Urbana, $350 from Robert Spitze of Urbana, $300 from Robert Shair of Champaign, $250 contributions each from Theodore Hymowitz and Richard Noel of Champaign, from Barak Rosenshine and Gene Vanderport of Urbana, and from Michael Vogel of Mahomet, $220 from Burton Swanson of Champaign and $125 from Joanne Chester of Urbana.
