DEGREE MILLS - DR ANATIDAE - 09-05-2007 I've just raised the point about Degree Mills - at the now revitalised Degreeboard - and felt it worth raising here. In the Ezell and Bear book on Diploma Mills they missed an ideal opportunity to slate the world's most serious mills, such as - http://www.instantdegrees.com http://www.degrees-and-diplomas.com http://www.universityofdublin.org http://www.degreexpress.eu/?degree+adwords2 http://www.speedydegrees.com/sitemap.asp http://www.degrees-for-sale.com http://www.customdegrees.com http://www.affordabledegrees.com http://www.degreexpress.eu Why they chose to ignore the above (and there are lots more) and pursue their vendetta against private universities raises serious questions about the motives behind the book. Wouldn't this also raise some serious questions about (selective) law enforcement? RE: DEGREE MILLS - Randall Flagg - 09-09-2007 Yes it would. But then again, Bear has always been selective as to what he could support or denounce. If he did it, he supported it, especially the money he made. If he had no financial interest in a school it was much easier for him to dislike it. Hell, Bear liked L.I.A.R. enough to sell it and then take payments from the new owner. He got $30 every time the new owner sold a milled degree. I wonder what being paid off by a degree mill owner is called? Maybe creative financing? There is NO CONNECTION with the original." --John Bear, Ph.D. =============================================== Bonus Report: Diploma Mills of the World by John Bear, Ph.D. (1982, Calfornia, Mendocino Book Company) Page-18 London Institute for Applied Research "The present author (one of the original group) assisted in selling the L.I.A.R. business to a gentleman in Holland, who carries it on for personal gain. I have been unable to stop him from using my name on the diplomas. He says he will send me $30 for each one he sells-money I will GLADLY accept and donate to good charities." --John Bear, Ph.D. One story for 1980, another in 1982. I guess things do change with time, and the truth seems to be the victim. I figure the old boy kept much and gave little. Maybe he likes those $150 bottles of wine also. And you know what they say, "Charity begins at home." Maybe because these are obvious diploma mills and what they went after is the not so obvious degree mills that actually disguise and more conning? I never read their book, sounds like you did. Did they claim that their book was a listing of all diploma and degree mills? They chose to ignore them (and my list is only a brief one) because of their incompetence. Their book was in fact an extremely poorly researched piece of drivel that was of no use whatsoever to education, or to the protection of society. RE: DEGREE MILLS - Student - 11-28-2007 As mentioned before I never read the book. Is it posible they simply didn't knew about this outfits or more than that maybe there was some kind legal issue, lawsuit or pending legal action? At this time I'm simply guessing. Dr. Bear state a few times about some entities that he left them alone pending their request or more than that pending posible legal action if my memory serves me well. |
