BILL HUFFMAN: my mentor millist dr. John Bear - ham - 08-12-2007

Quote:London Institute for Applied Research England. All right, he did it (as he's been saying in his book for 20 years now). In 1972, while living in England, John was involved in fund-raising for a legitimate school. He figured that since major universities were "selling" honorary degrees for millions, why not use this approach on a small scale? He and his associates created L.I.A.R. and ran ads in the U.S. reading "Phony honorary doctorates for sale, $25." Several hundred were sold, but it seemed to have upset half the world's educational establishment (the rest thought it was a good gag.) So L.I.A.R. was retired. Then an offer came from a Dutchman who lived in Ethiopia (you must believe us on this--who would make up such a story?) who wanted to trade 100 pounds of Ethiopian earpickers and Coptic crosses for the remaining L.I.A.R. certificates. Now he's selling them from Holland without the humorous disclaimer, and has added a bunch more fake school names. And if anyone would like some Ethiopian trinkets, have we got a deal for you! (Honestly!)

So while the "band of brothers" (pater incertus ) at DI/DD usually finger points and stones not only active degree mills and their clients and cronies, but "eventual" mills as well that might, would, could eventually turn out as degree mills.
BUT!
When heat gets closer to home, no more stones and no more ethical qualms.
dr. John Bear, mastermind behind several "unaccredited" schools, which he calls "degree mills" himself these days ( L.I.A.R, Millard Fillmore, I.I.A.S, Columbia Pacific University, Fairfax University, Greenwich university ) would not be an egregious snake oil salesman raking in huge profits, but a naive hippie or sort of tier-II Robin Hood or prankster who "just" had fun with a goliardic enterprise.
Like St.Francis, dr. John Bear gave away the whole stock of "phoney degrees to be sold in America only" for nothing, which eminently proves the unselfish and comedic value of the enterprise.

If that were anyone else's case, though, leniency would not extend that far.
Buyer beware!

I once saw John say, about another phoney degree enterprise, that though it appeared pretty much harmless, nevertheless, if something can be misused it will be. He went on to make the point that a mill is a mill is a mill. So, with that as a starting point, all mills are mills, and it makes no difference what the profits are used for or how cheap the degrees are. John also has greatly ridiculed schools that were located in Hawaii and Louisiana. Hmmmm, but he put an unaccredited school in each, didn't he? I wonder which John Bear is real, the one who calls unaccredited schools substandard or worse, or, the man who said they were very acceptable and getting better.

LIAR and Millard Fillmore were pure mills, and using Bear's and the Gang's new rules about degree mills, in their own words of course. It is now obvious that all of the Bear schools were degrees mills, IF?, we accept their definition of what makes up a real school. Now of course Bear does say that the schools were not mills as long as he was being paid by them but just as soon as he left and he stopped receiving money, THEY ALL, went bad, instantly. Now ain't that a funny turn of events. Maybe all of the other owners should have kept sending John a small percentage of the profits each year. Maybe then he might have seen these schools from a different slant/ $$$$$$$$$. Smile

Ooops, forgot one thing. John said that Greenwich had a big sign out front that had Greenwich University on it and that to him made it a better situation. Now ain't that a hell of a thing. A sign can make a school better.

Using this as our model, spraying paint over a rotten barn would make it a much better barn. Next time I have a car engine fail I'll just have the car painted, that should fix it.

We must keep this in mind in evaluating schools. The bigger the sign the better the school.

Regardless of what JB and his four or five mates now say, Greenwich was a successful DL school. Had it not been 'got at' by 'the Ausie establishment' it would still be operating on Norfolk Island.

Isn't it funny.  Back when Bear was ranting about how great Greenwich was, he was prevaricating, it was fairly good but nothing special. And now that he is saying that schools like it are mills, or little better, he is still lying.  He over hyped them then and underplays them now. Hell, he missed that one going and coming.  Rolleyes  That's the sort of thing that happens when you say what will sell the product rather than what is true.

You and I say that his schools and others of the type were real, then and now.  And he attacks us as buffoons because we say he created  real usable schools.  Now how does a man attack those who simply say the schools were real?

He attacked John Gray (noted author) for getting a Ph.D. from Columbia Pacific in 1982. He said it was problematic and didn't hold enough weight. In 1982 Bear was still one of the minority owners of Columbia Pacific, and, he helped design the DL programs. Now ain't that strange?  He calls his own work BAD and too Light. He sells it and then damns it. Smile
