The perfect insult is lack of acknowledgement like the time Katherine Hepburn asked Phil Donahue his name so she could sign a copy of her book.
A friend of mine upon meeting some Coldstream Guards, an ancient British Regiment, said he'd never heard of them. It turns out that he'd never heard of the Battle of Waterloo either. They were frantic for recognition.
