Crackpot George Gollin Sued Again (and again and...) - Herbert Spencer - 04-25-2012 Give Dr. Jerroll Dolphin credit for persistence. After his ill-fated 2010 lawsuit against George Gollin (George D. Gollin, George Dana Gollin) was dismissed on a technicality, he took another shot in February, 2011. He attempted to file an in forma pauperis action in pro per in Los Angeles federal court, but the judge denied his request and dismissed the case. In August 2011 Dolphin filed another complaint in Los Angeles federal court. The original complaint also was filed in pro per, and as the defendants queued up to file their motions to dismiss it looked like Dolphin was going to go down in flames again. Not because there was no merit to his case, but as in the original action because he lacked the legal expertise to comply with the convoluted legal system and the intricate local rules. But then Dolphin found a real lawyer, Larry D. Walls of Beverly Hills, who substituted in and filed a first amended complaint on Dolphin's behalf. Hope springs eternal! One might expect that with the assistance of a lawyer with some 36 years experience that at least Dolphin would not be getting tripped up on arcane procedural matters.

Unfortunately it looks like Walls is a former LA County DA who only recently jumped back into private practice. He hasn't even updated his profile on the California state bar website. It appears he might not be entirely up to speed on civil law and motion practice in the federal courts. The court is rejecting Walls' paperwork for trivial compliance issues, such as failing to include a title page. So far, two groups of defendants, including the State of Oregon and Anal Contreras, have been dismissed from the case. Several of the original plaintiffs also have been dismissed.

Defendants Gollin and U of I have a motion to dismiss scheduled for hearing April 30, 2012. The court has refused to grant Dolphin leave to file corrected paperwork, which suggests the court is warming up to clear the decks.

Again, it's a shame Dolphin can't seem to get his case heard on the merits. Reading over the complaint it seems clear that Gollin has been engaging in his customary slimy and despicable conduct, all to Dolphin's severe detriment. In addition to the previously alleged defamation and extortion, we see new allegations of civil rights violations and even computer hacking as well. Wonder why Gollin hasn't mentioned any of this? Illinois is bankrupt; how many tens of thousands of dollars is George Gollin's chronic assholistic stupidity going to cost Illinois taxpayers this time?
RE: Crackpot George Gollin Sued Again (and again and...) - Winston Smith - 04-25-2012 Gollin--the gift that keeps on giving. The guy is good for a new lawsuit every time he touches his state-issued keyboard. It's all part of his community service obligation, you know. ![]() Illinois can just keep raising taxes to pay for it. It's not like the Alinskyites would "bring somebody in from St. Louis" to solve this problem...would they?
RE: Crackpot George Gollin Sued Again (and again and...) - Armando Ramos - 04-25-2012 Dr. Dolphin has a great case, if he can get someone to hear it. The NY "wall of shame" case seems right on point with this situation. If Gollin is (as he claims) a "state actor" then he and Contreras were violating everyone's constitutional rights with their grandiose proclamations and lies. As WilliamW stated in that post, no "limitless and eternal notoriety" without due process. The way it seems to work with federal judges, if they want to hear the case they will find "minimum contacts" and if they don't they won't. If it's some "activist" judge looking at an "activist" political issue they will find jurisdiction. This judge either doesn't want to deal with lawsuits against government entities, or like most of them he just likes clearing his case load. Finding no jurisidiction lets him dump it on some other judge somewhere else, assuming it doesn't just fade away altogether. Obviously that judicial approach doesn't always make for an accurate application of the law, but you have to play the cards as they are dealt. Based on the court's ruling on the jurisdictional issues, it looks like Dr. Dolphin is going to have to file in Illinois to get Gollin, Schwartz and UIUC. Similarly, he'll need to file in Oregon to get Contreras and ODA. I hope Dr. Dolphin keeps after it. This latest complaint unveiled some of the underlying racial bias issues that have been commented on here many times. Clearly Gollin hates blacks and that no doubt motivates his vicious attacks against Dr. Dolphin and Liberian higher education. Emphasis on that angle might influence someone sympathetic to that political constituency to get involved. RE: Crackpot George Gollin Sued Again (and again and...) - bigfoot - 04-25-2012 Speaking of defamation, I just read that Colorado has repealed it's criminal libel statute, which was a class 6 felony. It becomes effective 9-1-2012. I believe it was the only state that made libel a felony. Many others still treat libel as a misdemeanor, though I doubt those that have criminal libel laws on the books actually pursue it as a "criminal act", I could be wrong. I believe it is a felony in Michigan to libel a bank or financial institution. RE: Crackpot George Gollin Sued Again (and again and...) - Martin Eisenstadt - 04-26-2012 (04-25-2012, 03:40 AM)Herbert Spencer Wrote: But then Dolphin found a real lawyer, Larry D. It appears he might not be entirely up to speed on civil law and motion practice in the federal courts. Some interesting comments about Walls in this 1997 case. Among other things, it states he is "an African-American" and formerly worked on the Hardcore Gang prosecution unit. I certainly can see why Dolphin might have thought that the latter qualified Walls to deal with devious dirtbags like Contreras and Gollin. However, the discussion in that case suggests that although Walls has good trial skills, he has been found lacking in other areas. These include "his inability to handle the caseload," "less than exceptionally well qualified in work ethics" and "only wanted to try cases he was certain of winning." Showing up in federal civil court with a lawyer who only practiced criminal law in state courts is a good way to lose, as Dr. Dolphin is learning. That you lost with a lawyer of the same race as you seems like small comfort. Of course, you can't really blame Dolphin for settling for the best he can afford. The system isn't exactly designed for low budget projects. Glad to see he's still soldiering on. Now that he's gotten a feel for how the battle gets fought he might step up his game a little. Let's hope the three-knockdown rule is not in effect. RE: Crackpot George Gollin Sued Again (and again and...) - WilliamW - 04-27-2012 (04-13-2010, 07:12 AM)Winston Smith Wrote: Dolphin is a very sympathetic figure. He has undertaken a monumental task of helping the poor and sick in Africa. It's just a few words on a page but in real life it's an enormous and incredibly ambitious undertaking. Not only does he have to work around the crooks and idiots in Africa, he has to dodge the self-serving hypocrites in the US as well. To see your life's work destroyed by a couple of slimy stalking crackpots like Gollin and Contreras must be absolutely intolerable. I give Dolphin a lot of credit for maintaining his composure and pursuing this within legal channels. I doubt I would be so inclined. It seems clear that the two dirtbags will stop at nothing to destroy Dolphin. Who could blame Dolphin if he returned the favor? If everyone who has been the subject of one of Gollin's death threats decided to exercise their right of self-defense, I think Dolphin might have to take a number. RE: Crackpot George Gollin Sued Again (and again and...) - Virtual Bison - 04-29-2012 Too bad we can't make this one stick. Gollin is the Teflon Don of the accreditation mafia. Pinning this guy down is harder than John Gotti. But like John Gotti, he may have his downfall. We can only hope so. RE: Crackpot George Gollin Sued Again (and again and...) - Travis Bickle - 04-30-2012 Someday a real rain will come and wash all this scum off the streets. RE: Crackpot George Gollin Sued Again (and again and...) - Winston Smith - 05-01-2012 $13.8 Million Defamation Verdict Quote:A Texas couple who filed a defamation lawsuit over three years ago against anonymous posters on the Internet forum Topix.com won a $13.8 million judgment from a jury. When scumbags like George Gollin and his cronies post lies about people on the internet, they really ought to think twice about what they say. Unlike the defendants in Texas, who probably don't have 13 nickels to rub together, the taxpayers of Illinois have lots of money available to pay off multi-million dollar defamation verdicts. Let's hope that Dr. Dolphin and everyone else who has been damaged by stalkers and lying scumbags like George Gollin get $13.8 million of Illinois taxpayers' money to play with. |
