RE: BSU and Gollin - Someone - 09-08-2008 JohnDoe Wrote:Yes. I have no affiliation with Breyer, but I'm getting sick and tired of all this undeserved harassment of this school. Breyer State has never been a mill, in the sense that they've been offering real education and never sold a degree. But the people who run it are responsible for the bad reputation of the school and they will be also responsible for its eventual downfall. They've done everything in the book to achieve that. Wrong associations, fake accreditations, running from state to state, using loopholes in state laws and much more. Their only chance to survive would be to drop the fake accreditations immediately, register properly in a state being careful to comply with local state rules, and apply for DETC accreditation. These things are very unlikely to happen though, these people seem to be on a self destruct mode. I just feel sorry for their students and alumni, they don't deserve this. RE: BSU and Gollin - Someone - 09-13-2008 This is a post at DD by Hungry Ghost referring to educators obtaining and using BSU degrees: "I agree with Rich pretty emphatically. Degree mill degrees are particularly damning when it's professional educators boasting them. If an "educator" didn't know, if he/she couldn't distinguish between a real program and a fake one, then professional competence is in question. If the "educator" did know that the program was doubtful, but boasted the degree anyway in order to impress laymen and make more money, then professional ethics are in question. Either way, it's not a good thing." I don't understand the logic of that, what exactly is a "fake" program of education??? A fake degree is one obtained without any work from an unaccredited and unlicensed school, but what is exactly the definition of fake education? It's common knowledge that doctoral students at BSU complete a number of courses, each including written assignments and time-limited online exams, and also write a dissertation. OK, the standard may be low (although no one has proven that), but how can one say this education is fake and the other one is real? In the case of these educators, their BSU degrees are real too since they were licensed by the state of Alabama at the time they obtained them. It seems the only "crime" of these educators was that they didn't check whether Alabama licensed degrees are acceptable in N.J. RE: BSU and Gollin - JohnDoe - 09-14-2008 Someone Wrote:This is a post at DD by Hungry Ghost referring to educators obtaining and using BSU degrees: I agree with this. About the standard of BSU. The general postulation among the opponents of Breyer is that there are no education going on, or that the education is of very low quality. As you say, no one has proven that, but boy how easy it is to just use that argument as a truth, and then just dismiss Breyer as a consequence of this. Another thing is this: Let us postulate that a doctorate from a good RA/NA university has a total objective value of 100 on all variables that constitutes quality. Let us further postulate that a doctorate from Breyer State has a total objective value of 30 on all variables that constitutes quality (Not that I believe in this difference, but this just serves as a hypothetical example) Now - we can have a totally average guy who uses a heck of a time to get through his RA/NA doctorate, and who really needs all the support he can get to acheive his doctorate. However, because he attends a NA/RA school with postulated better quality, he is praised. On the other side we can have a brilliant guy who choose to attend the doctorate at Breyer. He produces - more or less on his own - a brilliant dissertaion superior to the one at the NA/RA school. Does this help him? No, not at all. Because he chose Breyer he is automatically dismissed as a fraud. And - if we now postulated that he was so nice as to hand over his disseration to the guys at degreediscussion.com, what would then happen? We know what. His dissertation would be slaughtered even though it was superior in quality compared to their own dissertations. Barren very expensive universities that one may just be unable to attend due to financial reasons, I really can't see why one would choose a unaccredited (or accredited AND unwonderful ) school. Since the outcome isn't guaranteed (not all Oxford graduates are A+ graduates and not all end with seven figures White House jobs ) whichever route you choose, and since those who opt for unaccredited schools are probably 'freedom in academia' people, why won't they self-publish instead (Amazon booksurge for instance )? If the research is all that matters, why bother with smokescreens? Take notice that i said many times that even accredited schools offer little support to researchers, go figure unaccredited schools. RE: BSU and Gollin - kouzoulos - 09-19-2008 Hi all, what do you think about their new accreditation? http://www.edaccredit.org/index.html RE: BSU and Gollin - Dennis Ruhl - 09-20-2008 kouzoulos Wrote:Hi all, What should I think? They should concentrate on getting state licensed somewhere and, then, apply for DETC accreditation. RE: BSU and Gollin - JohnDoe - 10-03-2008 Gollin is moderating his view on Breyer State, somewhat. From being a mill, and nothing but a mill, it is now described as: " "apparent diploma mill" Breyer State (...)" Can this be the start of a major move towards full acceptance of Breyer State by Gollin? I think not, but this is the "most favorable "characterization of Breyer State I have seen in a while by Gollin. http://www.degreediscussion.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=6102 RE: BSU and Gollin - Don Dresden - 10-03-2008 JohnDoe Wrote:Gollin is moderating his view on Breyer State, somewhat. More likely somebody threatened him with a lawsuit and he wussed out. He doesn't know whether they are a diploma mill or not, just his usual speculation, conjecture, connect the dots BS, etc. |
