Now for NCU. Most of the guys over there have no first hand knowledge of what NCU does or doesn't do. They just parrot each other or argue, as the mood strikes them. It's just pointless chatter.
I've seen people all over the place on NCU. Some love it and others can't stand the school. All I can say is that if the fit isn't there, you have no option short of finding another school. The school will not change what it is for a student. You either give them what they want or you don't get the degree.
Here is some advice given to me by a University of Tennessee professor. I was complaining to him at the time about something. I don't recall what.
"Give me what I want and you will pass. If you don't you won't."
That about sums it up. If you can't please them, you have no choice but to find another school.
NCU would not have been my first choice. I base this on what I have heard, not what I know. I have never been a student there and have little direct knowledge of it. But the information I have seen about NCU makes me concerned and since there are other choices, I would take one, but that's just me.

I am a student at NCU (NORTHCENTRAL UNIVERSITY) in their PhD program. I am a straight A student with the University. I had an over 3.5 GPA in my MBA program. I am trying to complete my degree and I am not able to get passed the ABD process.
After filing a harassment complaint with the University, my entire experience changed. Now I have had to pay for my most recent 'course' twice and no one will speak with me. They have sent me emails stating that they do not speak with students (which I have documentation of) and that all communication can 'be handled through email'.
Their actions have intentionally made it impossible for me to complete my degree - after spending thousands of dollars and a significant amount of time and energy.

NCU - To clarify
I am hoping to speak with Dr. Gardner to resolve this issue. I have faith that he will take the appropriate actions and I will be able to update this report with a positive response soon. I want to be clear that I think very highly of him as an academic leader and he appears to go out of his way to work with students and create a positive learning environment. I do not think that he has been made aware of my current situation (I have tried) or else I believe it would have been resolved months ago.
My goal is to find a resolution and to be able to complete my education and earn my PhD. I do not want to take away from other students' positive experiences and I do not want to disparage the university. I am hoping that by raising my individual concern, I will be able to complete my education and move on.

Well, so much for Dr. Gardner. After telling me that he was going to call me back and is assistant Stephanie scheduling for him to speak with me on 3 occasions, he has now refused to get involved. Dr. Turner has instructed everyone not to take my calls - so I cannot speak with my advisor or 'mentor' - she has given dozens of excuses for this, but everyone of them is contradicted in emails that I have from her.
I will spend time this week posting the actual emails that I have received so you can see what you can get in the PhD program at NCU.
I have no doubt that this is not the situation for everyone. This is my experience. Just a warning for those of you who are considering NCU.
I would also suggest that you stay away from Dr. Babb - unless you want to rewrite every assignment. As a student who has straight A's in their PhD program and has NEVER been asked to resubmit a paper, I suddenly find that every paper I submit is rejected. Again, just my experience. I'm sure it's different for everyone. Just don't count on Dr. Gardner!

If this is true NCU is treading on dangerous ground. Selective treatment after filing of a harrassment complaint is a very, very, very serious offense. If you remember the Capella Stinker, Capella being aware of the potential danger bent over backward to appease him but it was never enough. Being beligerant to a complainant equates to guilt, end of story. They might want to run it by a civil rights lawyer and start the apologies. These turkeys can't possibly be that stupid. Then again maybe its not true.
Maybe NCU isn't all that concerned about federal student aid or accreditation.

I don't see the full story of what this student is calling harassment, the dissertation is not a walk in the park, and you will have to listen to the mentors and the committee if you want to pass this process(you wont' be able to do what you want, this is a rite of passage). The person is not telling the whole story and something is missing out of the picture.
The only way this person got this type treatment if she or he either disrespected the faculty/mentors and advisers or plagiarized an assignment and that is grounds either to terminate you from your studies and or to resubmit the assignment with a lower passing grade, as you can notice the person mention was straight "A" student and did not like the idea of resubmitting the assignment.
I am neutral to the opinion of some for whatever reasons or beef they have against the university, but the full story should be known before making any judgment or conclusions. Wherever you go, you have students that do not like something about the university (that is universal) because they cannot have their way, and you will face a professor that are bad to work with.

I agree that we only know what the individual says but NCU had better treat this one with kid gloves. We know nothing of the nature of the complaint and it is difficult to perceive what the nature of harassment would be at an online school.
Another explanation might be that the school administration does not understand the ramifications of a harassment complaint.

I am working with an accredited UK university...they never acknowledge emails and speaking with anyone is a matter of luck...I filed no complaint.

I'm sorry to hear many of you have had problems with NCU. I can see why. It's very difficult doing work online. My experience has been mixed but no different than any other accredited school I attended. Problems I have had at NCU are the same ones I have had before at other places such as not getting help from the administration when requested, having a poor instructor, confusion about the process. NCU staff has been helpful though for issues I could not resolve myself. Most of my mentors have been good and some very good.
