Steven Levicoff, 71, formerly of Plymouth Meeting, died April 25, 2025, in his Royersford home due to complications from diabetes.

Steve was born in Philadelphia to the late Charles and Ann Levicoff. He was an accomplished author and Ph.D., who was a leading critic of diploma mills and unaccredited institutions of higher learning. He was later a truck driver before retiring in 2022.

In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald. He is survived by his brother Warren (Judith); his nieces, Lisa (Robert) Summerfield and Nicole (Brian) Kraft; great-nephew, Daniel Kraft; and his sister-in-law, Phyllis.

Donations in Steve’s name can be made to the American Diabetes Association.

I never met him. My feelings about his online behavior are clear. John Bear said he met Steve once and found him, in person, to be very much as Johnathan describes him. I accept that, so I've never understood his lack of self-awareness.

His "I have an RA doctorate and you don't" attitude was really troubling at times. Lording over people simply because he had a PhD from Union--a school constantly in trouble with various forces--was unseemly. Frankly, he was a nightmare to a lot of people, me included. He exaggerated things, ignored facts counter to his opinions, and attacked people relentlessly--especially those new to the board. If they said something naive, he attacked like a white blood cell after an infection. Some people seemed to enjoy this. I did not.

Steve fought a lot of good fights. But he fought a lot of bad ones, too. With an utter lack of manners and respect. It's simple to treat every issue as binary, but true judgment often lies somewhere in between. Steve never had much patience for subtlety and nuance. Attack dogs never do.

I'm sorry he's gone. But I'm also sorry for all the opportunities that someone as intelligent and talented as Steve should not have missed. Perhaps I failed him by opposing him instead of finding common ground. I don't know. But I wish he'd lived much longer, for he seemed to enjoy it so.

A hypocrite’s level of arrogance and superiority is borderline narcissistic. Attempt to engage them as equals, as you’ll likely walk away feeling like a student who has just been reprimanded by the teacher. Similar to playing the victim, this condescending veil will wear thin as the relationship progresses. After all, when no one likes you, it’s pointless to act superior!

5. They start being nice to “the right people.”

Watch a hypocrite carefully enough, and you’ll inevitably see their two-faced attitude come to the surface. The “important” people, i.e., those with power, will bear the brunt of a hypocrite’s inauthenticity. If those “important people” are smart, they’ll dismiss the charlatan without prejudice.

You see, hypocrites like to believe that they belong to a certain “class,” despite their victim-playing, complaining, and outright lying. The only “class” to which these fraudsters belong is alongside all the other phonies.
