Quote:It comes after a series of stories in the Herald detailing claims of racist violence against Indian students, shonky private colleges providing dubious diplomas, visa abuses and the collapse of educational institutions.

Iceland went bankrupt; in Greece the financial crisis puts the country at risk of internal collapse and -so say newspapers- literally "insurrection"; Spain is not far behind with many other first world countries...and what are social-communist hacks, fakirs and barnums thinking of...?
You bet...stale but still good WWII propaganda and the usual bogeyman of racists planning mass murder of you-know-whos...
PFFT!

A) A chance to blame Dr. George Maxwell Brown again for everything that goes wrong in higher education in Australia while he tilts at widmills with Gay Al and Dumbass Gollin...

Has G. Maxwell Brown ever said a word about too much shonky business in Australia?  He seems to have a problem with noticing what goes on right in his own neighborhood yet has a keen eye for what he thinks is going on half a planet away.

Sounds familiar.  His pal Gollum seems to have a similar affliction.  Thoroughly myopic about the criminal conduct of people he works with, but a self-appointed expert on what he imagines people on distant continents might be doing.

If Henrik wants to be ignored by George Brown all he needs to do is move to Australia and start beating up Hindus in his spare time.
We all knew that it was only a matter of time ...

Gollin potshot at Knightsbridge
Dr. Duck wrote his dissertation all by himself.  He didn't need 15 buddies to leech off of at the Dumbass Factory.  If anybody was in need of a worry-free degree it would be Gollum.

Did Dr. Duck's wife sell 386 mutant lab pigs for food?  Is she the conflict of interest officer at a university rocked by a conflict of interest scandal? Do Dr. Duck's kids maintain filthy blogs and brag about their homosexual relationships?  Last we heard Dr. Duck's family is decent, law abiding, and hyphen free.  If scum like Gollum is taking shots at you, you must be doing something right.

Well said Armando.
Here's what G-G mate JB said about my brown teal work:

Every once in a while, I really enjoy the act of delving deeply
(if briefly) into a totally new (for me) area. Sometimes this
simply involves picking up a book someone has left on a
library table. Or being dragged along by my wife to a lecture
or workshop given by someone I'd never heard of on a topic I
barely knew existed. And sometimes a Brown Teal work
appears magically on the computer What an immense piece of
work this is. And the book is so well designed.
The most disappointing aspect of the changes in John Bear since the 1980's has been his firm embrace of the establishment in all things relating to education. I know some people are troubled by his involvement with L.I.A.R., Greenwich, etc. while others are more concerned with his association with people like Chip, Gus, Huffman, etc. but I think that his wholesale abandonment of any entity or philosophy independent of the higher educational cartel is really the biggest letdown.

The John Bear of the 1980's wrote about a new field, distance learning, with humor and an independent streak. His books inspired readers to achieve academically outside the then-higher educational norms. He regaled us with stories about non-traditional learners who refused to accept "no" from colleges about non-traditional degree programs and ultimately managed to circumvent the college apparatchiks (like Loots-Gollin at UIUC) and obtain the degree anyway.

Bear wrote of incarcerated individuals who managed to obtain college and graduate degrees, even offering advice to future would-be incarcerated students ("tell the instructor upfront"). Overall, Bear's books were very positive and entertaining. I found his educational philosophy to be complementary to the thesis of Ronald Gross' The Independent Scholar's Handbook. Gross wrote about the path of independent scholars, those engaged in scholarly research outside of academia, and documented the contributions they made to the advancement of their respective disciplines. Everything that Bear wrote was in fact consistent that thesis. (independence, non-traditional, etc.)

I view Dr. Neil Hayes as such an independent scholar. His work and achievements in his chosen field were accomplished outside of academia (and while he was working to build his own private business) but nevertheless have expanded the borders of knowledge in the discipline. I have sincere admiration for the man and his work, and despite the snarky comments from hemorrhoids like George Gollin, numerous others recognize and respect Dr. Hayes' efforts as well. I would like to point out that he is the recipient of a Queen's Service Medal for his work with the Brown Teal.

As quoted above, at one point John Bear had very warm and positive comments about Neil's book, as did the late, inimitable Uncle Janko. And why shouldn't they? Before both succumbed to pressure from Gus Sainz and the rest of the gang, they were very supportive of Dr. Hayes' work without the support, financial or otherwise, of the academic establishment. Once they began to feel the pressure, they both gave in to the partisan bickering that has since come to characterize the field of distance learning.
Most people's opinions are generally volatile.
On one site, they first hailed me as authority and urged me to write a book on the subject...a fortnight later they booed me as if I were in between Dahmer and Pol Pot...
The very jackass uncle Janko hailed me first as "valiant fighter against degree mills", and a fortnight later he and moron Gregg DesElms tried to assassinate my charachter.
On a third site (all three in separate domains), the owner first claimed I had provided invaluable help to people in the field and saluted my integrity, accuracy and independence...next he accused me of being a stupid shill talking rubbish and deactivated my account after 8 years...
Go figure...
I wouldn't put 2 cents on anyone's opinion...especially online.
And before Peter French decided to go over to 'the other side' (where he has never been accepted) he also made some pleasant comments at collegehints:

“Just accept it - it is brilliant work and acclaimed by senior acadmeics in the field. I know, I have read it, and i have discussed it with people who know. Period.”
Then, who is really entitled to pass an informed judgment?
Doctor Butt, Thomas Chip White?
Professor Fifteen Gollin?
Doctor Cookbooks, Sainz?
Doctor Meluvyalongtime, DesElms?
Doctor TwelveyearsZA Janko?
Doctor Millard Fillmore John Bear?

It is somewhat subjective but I would say that individuals who have done at least their own thesis if not a doctoral diss could make an informed judgement. Sainz is a 120-day wonder, Elmer is a dangerous person and Chip is a gay porn entrepreneur - nothing said by any of them with regards to scholarly works carries any weight.

On the other hand, Bear, the late Uncle J (who once called me a cretin but I'm sure that he meant it in a nice way Big Grin ), Peter French, George Brown, Gollin, Tony Pena, Rich Douglas and Brad Sweet, among other known DL personalities (perhaps even Bruce the Cop), could provide a somewhat more informed judgement than those of us who have not conducted such research and prepared a theis/diss or published work.

It is interesting to note that I haven't seen any negative comments about Dr. Hayes' work from anyone who has actually read it.
