Mr. John Bear and fellow James Campbell reported in the July/august 1974 issue of Education&Training as having raised IN NINE MONTHS in excess of US$ 50.000 from the sale of phoney London Institute of Applied research (L.I.A.R) doctorates.
Dr.Bear's retort is as follows:
1 it was all a "joke", since his ad ran like "phoney doctorates for sale" and/or
2 he was involved in a charity effort. At some points he claimed ALL the revenue was to fund some UK children charity, but pressed for details admitted ONLY A PART (about 5-10%) OF SUCH REVENUE WENT "directly" TO THE CHILDREN CHARITY. As well, while described as in operation from offshore locations, dr. Bear denied the "offshore" charachter of the operation and stated he had disclosed his earnings for tax purposes.
