I would have titled the thread "Nosborne Has an Epiphany" but, considering that he is an observant Jew, it would be somewhat incongruous.

Thread title aside, Nos is in the middle of deciding what to do following his early retirement from his state job as an attorney in New Mexico. He apparently has already passed the exam to be an EA (Enrolled Agent) and is pondering an LL.M. in tax from a CalBar DL law school. He has thrown out a number of options available to him and asked for input. Little Fauss, who seemed to just want to post something, offered almost nothing constructive except to provide a segue for Nos. While on this soul-searching journey, it came to Nosborne, this radical notion that quality instruction and real learning can actually take place outside of the (RA) university. What a shocking thought!!!

That sounds like something this forum and its predecessor have been saying for years, especially James. It is also something to which DegreeDiscussion and Degreeinfo have always been philosophically opposed.

why?
in the desert they had lots of funny and supernatural things happening...
I should have done a little research on the word "epiphany." It took less than one minute to find out that Jews do use the word epiphany, despite the fact that the Greek-derived word is frequently associated with Christianity.

BTW, check out the DD poll on "RA or No Way." Read their comments - only Levicoff had the guts to say that he's RA or No Way! The rest of the gang waffled and claimed some nuanced position but probably didn't vote that way. The poll results show a 3-1 margin for RA or No Way.

Nosborne's navel gazing has been entertaining. Being a lawyer with no tax training, what should he do but want to be a tax lawyer. Sounds like a dentist wanting to do open heart surgery. Tax is a world unto itself - guilty until proven innocent.

I was still laughing at his Dee Dee Ramone R'n'R HOF-style self-congratulation for his big accomplishment of becoming an Enrolled Agent.  ("I'd like to thank..myself.  I'd like to congratulate...myself.  I'd like to give a pat on the back to...myself.")

Apparently Nosborne never read Circular 230, which give attorneys the right to practice before the IRS.

Quote:§10.3 Who may practice.
(a) Attorneys. Any attorney who is not currently under suspension or disbarment from practice before the Internal Revenue Service may practice before the Service upon filing with the Service a written declaration that he or she is currently qualified as an attorney and is authorized to represent the particular party on whose behalf he or she acts.

Becoming an EA when you already have the right to practice seems tantamount to an admission you never bothered to read the rules before you jumped in.  Certainly reassuring to any taxpayer you represent. Rolleyes

Wasn't he also wowing the slack-jawed yokels at DD/DI with his fancy University of London DL LLM program?  What happened to that?  Did he finally figure out that only TV lawyers talk with a British accent?  Or did they finally figure out he was an idiot on two continents?

Now it dawns on him that earning a degree doesn't actually mean you know anything about your trade.  You would have thought three or four years of law school might have tipped him off.  Well, better late than never.  Give him another six or eight years and he might realize Bear and his wannabe clones are all full of shit too.
Albert,

That's the best post I've read in quite a while. I'm still laughing ...
