Northeastern Illinois still grants lifetime tenure to 'exceptional' professor

A Northeastern Illinois University professor with two master' degrees ?but without an accredited doctorate?was granted tenure under a university policy that allows "exceptional" teachers to be hired without a doctorate.

Sounds like a non-story, right? Except the professor, Theophilus "T.Y." Okosun, is a black man from Nigeria who attended a Catholic school.

Now stalker and self-appointed "expert"? George Gollin is taking time away from defending himself in his pending $120 million shakedown lawsuit to attack Okosun.

"That could mislead people," said George Gollin, a University of Illinois physics professor who has investigated diploma mills.

"?They probably turned down some people who would have done fine in the job, who had solid academic credentials, because they didn't understand what his degree was," Gollin said.

"Some"? people is apparently Gollinspeak for "white"? people, or at least "non-African"? people.

In fact Okosun already had two master's degrees from the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium when he moved to the United States. Catholic University is the oldest Catholic university in the world, according to their website.

He then earned a PhD from state-approved but unaccredited Pacific Western University in Los Angeles, completing a thesis on violence at Cabrini-Green, where he'd been working for a nonprofit.

"Those of us who come in as immigrants, we didn't understand the difference between 'state-approved' and 'accredited.'"

He said university officials knew it wasn't [from a regionally accredited school] because he told them. "I said, 'Look, this is an unaccredited institution,' " Okosun said. "That was clear.''

But the school allowed Okosun to pursue the lifetime employment contract "without a Ph.D." based on his teaching skills. Okosun eventually demonstrated to faculty and administrators that his teaching is so "exceptional" that he is worthy of tenure, [Northeastern Illinois Provost Larry] Frank said.

"You already have to present yourself as a superior teacher or scholar to be tenured," said Frank, who as provost is the school's chief academic officer. "So 'exceptionality' means better than superior.''

So if there is no problem with his teaching (in fact, he is said to be "better than superior"?) and the university knew he did'nt have a regionally accredited PhD, why should an insignificant putz like George Gollin care?

Clearly George Gollin has an axe to grind with any black man who tries to get ahead in academia, particularly if the man has connections to Africa.

And the fact that the guy spent time at a Catholic (or "Papist" as they call it in the Gollin household) university just adds fuel to the fire as far as Gollin is concerned.

It's yet another example of George Gollin's bigotry and racism directed against Africans and African-Americans, just like he is accused of doing with Dr. Jerroll Dolphin and St. Luke School of Medicine.?

Small wonder then that George Gollin and his employer find themselves on the wrong end of federal lawsuits. The way he spends all his spare time insulting and degrading black people and Christians, he seems to be begging for more.

The University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign) started the Office of Inclusion and Intercultural Relations a couple years ago- the objective of which seems to be the exclusion and slandering of students, alumni, and community members who do not agree with their narrow-minded perspective. Even after their 'amends' post-admissions scandal...it looks like they've still got aLOT more work to do

These things have long-term repercussions, especially for what appears to be a younger guy like Okosun.

We can't say on one hand that traditional academia and its rules amount to a 'scam' or are fraught with privileges and political connections count more than anything else...and on the other blindly dive to defend anyone in that game just because the klones are after him.
It may all be bad blood between diverse constituencies over whether gays, Africans, Chicanos, Jews, women or any other scored one ride on the gravy train of public money too many.

Surely you jest. That would require actual research, which in turn would require some minimum competence in doing research. Unless he's got at least 15 buddies on board Gollin isn't up to it.

It's much easier for incompetents like Gollin to just issue proclamations. It cuts out all those tedious concepts like "facts" and "truth." Sure, you get sued a lot, but your taxpayer financed employer pays for it, so who cares.

Pacific Western was denied a renewal of its California state approval in 1994 -- the year Okosun finished his degree. The school sued and, under a settlement, had its state license renewed in 1996...

Legal and licensed in California when issued, legal in Illinois.? Sounds like CHEA director Gollin is accusing Okosun of some sort of criminal conduct, without any basis in law or fact.

Somebody ought to put Okosun in touch with Dr. Jerroll Dolphin's lawyers. I bet they would have some suggestions for Okosun on how to deal with CHEA and its sleazy agents.

As I recall, Pacific Western University changed names to California Marimar University and became DETC and ACICS accredited.

Oh, so PWU wanted "just" 12 months of study. I truly doubt that any "diploma mill" would provide a year's worth of coursework.

There are plenty of RA colleges where you can earn a degree in a year or less. Excelsior College (RA) only wants three hours of coursework before handing out its degrees...
