An international student seems to have had a less-than-wonderful experience at Australia's Griffith University. He states his case in passionate and amusing fashion on YouTube.

How is a government-run "crook slum" different from a "diploma mill"? As a general rule diploma mill customers seem highly satisfied with their purchases, and according to the epic research work of Dr. R. C. Douglas find high utility as well. On the other hand, we hear many similar tales of exploitation and woe incurred at the hands of the vaunted government-endorsed cartels.

How could anyone with such fractured English have been admitted to an English-speaking university? Don't they use TOEFL for admissions in Australia? No surprise the guy had a rough time, he obviously wasn't equipped to succeed in college. He wasn't equipped to succeed in junior high.

Another related video suggests this guy had a lot of other problems, but the fact that he was admitted at all supports his claim that the university only wants to "rape your money."

Admitting someone without any hope of succeeding would be the absolute definition of student exploitation. Unless this guy is 7 feet tall and has a 4 foot vertical leap, the only reason I can see why you would admit someone with third grade English language skills would be to collect his tuition.

The reason the socialists denounce that classic tale as "racist" is that it is a refutation of everything they advocate. The tigers are metaphor for the insatiable and powerful government that takes (taxes) every nice little thing you have and leaves you standing there in your skivvies. The protagonist is a poor and powerless child, but he doesn't whine for help to the government or the police or even his union rep. Instead he uses self-reliance and intelligence to solve his own problem--by turning the tigers' own character weaknesses against them.

For some reason people a hundred years ago got the message and instinctively embraced the resourceful dark-skinned child as a model for their own "dark horse" struggles against government tyranny. There's a reason why Bradbury had the "fire department" burning this book in Fahrenheit 451. Today shakedown artists seize every opportunity to shout "racism" to turn a buck and further a repressive political agenda. It's about time they were melted into butter.

According to the "rebuttal video," the fellow is from Limpopo province, South Africa. This is the home of the former University of the North in the former city of Pietersburg in the former province of Transvaal. According to sources cited in Wikipedia, the province is 97.3% black and less than .05% English-speaking white. You have to wonder how and why a guy from that area ends up at a place with just about the exact reverse demographics. I figure mom and dad (and probably their friends, relatives, neighbors and local law enforcement) wanted to get the guy as far out of town as possible, and Brisbane fit the bill.

But since our friend seems like an obvious nut case and writes broken English at best, you still have to wonder what the admissions office at Griffith was thinking. Australia has an ample supply of dark-skinned people of its own, and most generally with a lot more on the ball than this guy, so surely they weren't lacking for deserving demographics-enhancers.

On the other hand, if Griffith was figuring they could make a few bucks on the deal before he either went postal or went home, you do have to question their ethics. Reminds me of that scene in Animal House, where the Delta house frat admits all the new pledges because "we need the dues." Is Animal House really the standard to which major universities hold themselves? I would put the entire school on double secret probation.

Australia's Reputation Damaged by Treatment of Foreign Students

Oct. 4 (Bloomberg) -- Australia's reputation has been damaged by its treatment of overseas students, its third-biggest source of foreign income, said the head of an inquiry.

The number of foreign students in Australia has risen to 475,000 from 250,000 in 2005, Bruce Baird, a former Australian lawmaker, said today on Ten Network Holdings Ltd. television.

Australia's government appointed Baird in August to review the Education Services for Overseas Students Act to improve support for students and strengthen regulation of the sector, which was worth A$15.5 billion ($13.4 billion) in 2008. Violent attacks on Indian students in Melbourne this year and the quality of education at vocational colleges in Australia have stoked concerns in India and strained relations between the two nations.

"Certainly our brand has been damaged significantly in India, you've only got to see the press clips and see the very bad coverage we've had," Baird said on Ten television. "It hasn't been helpful."

India is Australia's No. 2 market for international students, worth A$2.4 billion in 2008, up from A$1.6 billion a year earlier. China is the nation's No. 1 market, the Australian government said in a June release.

"We've got agents who are ripping students off, offering all types of incentives at getting people here, colleges that haven't been effectively monitored and audited setting up business, teaching inadequate standards of courses" and overcrowding, Baird said. "People are concerned, students are not being well treated in many cases."

Australia's Victoria state, its second-most populous, is safe for overseas students, Premier John Brumby said last month during a visit to India. The state will pass a law against hate crimes and spend more money on policing, he said in Delhi on Sept. 24.

Baird's review will provide an interim report by November, with a final report expected in early 2010, Deputy Prime Minister Julia Gillard said on Aug. 8.

It's "an important industry -- it needs to be protected," Baird said today.

Wow, colleges that haven't been effectively monitored and audited, teaching inadequate standards of courses??? Sounds like a bunch of degree mills to me!

Too bad there's not some sort of degree mill "expert" kind of guy in Australia who can do something about this scandalous situation. Maybe some guy with a receding hairline and a PhD who has lots of gay friends in Oregon and Illinois...I dunno...maybe one of these guys...
