Tigard Republican Tony Marino definitely won't be able to flex his Ph.D. creds in Oregon anymore.

Last week, the candidate for Oregon House 35 inserted a unique tell-all letter into local newspapers, outlining the mistakes he's made and how he's learned from them. Among his admitted shortcomings: a marketing doctorate from an on-line university that's not accredited in Oregon.

Marino hasn't touted the diploma from Ashwood University in political material, but downloadable books available on his business Web site (www.americawebworks.com) referred to him as "Tony Marino, Ph.D."

On Monday, the state Office of Degree Authorization sent a letter asking him to back up his claim with an official transcript. Oregon is among a dozen states, including Washington, that polices pretty strictly who can claim an advanced degree.

Ashwood University offers all sorts of diplomas, starting at $239, and gives credit for life experience.

"As far as I know, it's a fake," said Alan Contreras, administrator of the Office of Degree Authorization.

Marino, an Internet marketing consultant who co-hosts a weekly show on-line, said he'll remove the references right away. He wants to do the right thing, he said, and did not know he had been violating a state law.

"Obviously, I believe based on my life's experience, and my service to my country and all the other things I've done professionally in my life, I believe I deserve it."

-Janie Har

A degree from Ashwood University is about as queer as Gay Al.  Anybody who would run for public office with such a degree and claim to be "Dr." anything is too dumb to be in a position of public responsibility.

So does Gay Al inspect the credentials of every candidate for public office in Oregon to make sure they pass his whimsical degree acceptablity test?

Or does he just get aroused when he finds a conservative he can assault?  Given his track record for attacking fundamentalist Christians and anyone else who opposes degenerate perverts like him, it seems like yet another instance of Arbitrary Al's selective enforcement of Oregon's ridiculous laws against people whose political views he doesn't like.

Would he enforce this law against a Democrat candidate?  Nobody knows, it's never happened.

An interesting querstion. If someone uses a PhD title in Oregon and refuses to identify the source, can Gay Al apply any sanction? Would the judged civil rights abuser boot down their door and do a body cavity search?
