Bear New Unaccredited WISR Board Member

Do you say it "wiser" or "whizzer"? WISR is the Western Institute for Social Research, an unaccredited but California approved operation in Berkeley. Aren't all unaccredited schools death on wheels? No, just the ones that compete with John Bear's unaccredited schools.

After writing favorably about WISR for 30+ years, and being regularly asked, I agreed last week to join their Board of Directors. Earlier this year, they surveyed all their PhD students to see whether they would prefer the WISR Ph.D., or a DETC-accredited D.Ed. or D.Psy. The vote was 26 to 0 in favor of the Ph.D.

John Bear, PhD is WISR’s newest Board member. He is widely regarded as one of the foremost experts on nontraditional higher education and distance learning. He is an actively involved critic of diploma mills, and a supporter, and co-founder, of many legitimate and solid nontraditional programs of higher learning. He received his BA in Psychology (1959) and his M.J. in Journalism (1960) from the University of California at Berkeley; his PhD in Communications (1966) is from Michigan State. He is the author of 35 books with major publishers—on higher education, computers, travel, US history, cooking, publishing and consumerism. He is especially well known in the higher education community for his numerous guides to nontraditional higher education and distance learning. He was the Head of New Business Development or the Financial Times division of Pearson PLC, which is the world’s largest educational publisher. Years ago, he was a tenured Associate Professor of Journalism at the University of Iowa and head of the Senior Honors Program there.

I'll be damned!!! Here he is saying an unaccredited school may be good, and may be of better use than an accredited one. Even his brown nosed-suck up- Rich D. is saying he likes something about it. I'll never understand these people. Bear and Douglas laugh at and ridicule evey single school, every person who uses an unaccredited one, and boom, here they are finding something unaccredited that is up to their standards, whatever that is.

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Bear give several interviews in recent years where he said that ALL unaccredited schools were terrible at best and mills at worst?

I guess a born again liar can never decide what he believes and what he doesn't.

You know if I quoted Bear, next year, on that 26 to 0 thing he just said he would call me a liar or that I had misquoted him.

It now seems, once again, that unaccredited schools may be good enough for some people.

Hell of a world we live in when a phoney like Bear, and his favorite butt sniffer, Douglas, give opinions that a few people seem to care about.

I thought his opinion switching days might be over, but I guess, once again, the truth is what pays Bear Paws the best. Now I wonder how the old man figures to benefit from this sudden change of heart?

The folks at WISR had better make sure they pet and pay the old fraud on time or you know what--Mill-mill-mill-mill.

Will this joint be listed on the State of Oregon's website as a mill? Probably not if Alan Contraras gets his way.

It will be interesting to see what happens when Dr. Bear resigns and cuts off all association with this school. I will wager it will immediately be added to the shit list.

Right you are, jamesc1. The only consistent standard Klempner has is the Gold Standard: is Klempner making money on the deal? History has shown that's the one and only thing he truly believes in.

If Bear gets paid--directly or indirectly--it's "one of the very few high-quality unaccredited schools" and a "good choice." If Bear doesn't get paid, or stops getting paid, now it's a "less-than-wonderful."

Another sterling example of the consistent hypocrisy and duplicity of which Bear/Klempner and Contrerass provide for all to sicken at. The "Odoriferous ODA" hasn't placed WISR on it's list of most hated schools, like they have with California Pacific and many other outstanding schools?...Gee, I wonder why?...could it be because Bear/Klempner is now involved with the day-to-day workings of this Institute?...sadly, now that Bear/Klempner is on board, it will invariably turn to SHIT!...Most things Bear/Klempner has placed his "diseased hand" in... turn into a stinking pile of "OFFAL"...just ask the chagrined alumni of that sterling academic institution Columbia Pacific...which started out good...when Bear/Klempner arrived it turned into an illegal "degree mill"...that was churning out phony paper by the bushel, until the state DA based out of Sacramento shut it down by court order!...WISR is headed down "shit river"...enjoy!
