Canyon College Closed?

Students of Idaho-approved but unaccredited Canyon College are reporting the school has closed. This post from a members-only Facebook group from May 4, 2012:

Canyon College claims accreditation from legit but unrecognized ANMAB, but the ANMAB website does not list them as a such, or at all.

Canyon College is still listed on the Idaho State Board of Educaton's website as a Private Proprietary School.

Canyon College claims to be "actively working towards accreditation with a U.S. Department of Education (USDE) recognized agency for all of its programs."

They used to offer a Naturopathy curriculum including an ND degree, although I no longer see that offered. Could they just have dropped the non-traditional health programs as they move toward accreditation?

In any case, looks like at the very least another non-traditional delivery/non-traditional subject matter program bites the dust. Sad

Looks like it is the school and not just the particular program that is closing, apparently confirmed by the dean himself. From the aforementioned members-only Facebook group on May 6, 2012:

Quote:Nope whole school closing[. T]hey still[ h]ave not even told the staff. I am in contact with a couple of professors and they a[r]e still in the dark but I spoke to the dean my self and he said regrettably due to the economy he would be finishing existing classes with students but would be [ac]cepting no more.

Right you are, VB. The klones have been taking cheap shots at Canyon for years. This isn't the first time a school made a run at legit accreditation and wound up down the drain due to the ridiculous cost. Seems to be a do-it-yourself variation on "RA or no way."

Kadali, India?

Sounds like another American business driven offshore by the current oppressive business climate. See also, e.g., Eduardo Saverin.

Herbert...help to shed some light on this. I was looking at American Global University, and they are now located in Westminster Ca.. They were located some years ago In Cheyenne WY. Quite by chance I blundered into this school while staying at the Plains Hotel in Cheyenne, many moons ago. I scoped it out, and it was a "locked office", and looked a little less than wonderful. Kinda bizarre, I ran into em' when they were doin' business on the "High Plains"...in the land of Tom Horn.

The President of the University apparently has lived in Cali for years, even when based out of Wyoming. Are they state approved, and legit... or just "flying around by the seat of their pants"? (LOL!)

Their address in Westminster, CA is a UPS Store. Their phone number tracks back to a cellphone. The California BPPE does not list American Global University among its approved schools. The California Secretary of State shows "American Global University" as "suspended," and "American Global University, Inc." also as "suspended." The Wyoming Secretary of State shows "American Global University Inc." [no comma] as "Inactive--Revoked (Tax)," and "American Global University, Inc." [with comma] as "Inactive--Administratively Dissolved (Tax)."

So based on that information I believe it would be fair to say they are more the latter than the former. I suspect they cater largely to overseas clientele who aren't aware of the potential significance of these details.

Thanks for the update Herbert. I had noticed that (AGU), was offering a graduate degree in "marriage and family counseling", (LOL!). I wonder what state would recognize this credential, as it is very specific and usually leads to licensure upon completion of it's graduate degree and clinical hours, if offered from an RA school/state approved...

The web-site looked very crude and had that "mill" look about it, (very cheesy graphics)....from what I understand the school ain't cheap!. It's something like fifteen K for a diploma, that may have very limited use in America and possibly abroad. I think it is almost more of a vanity degree....pretty pricey to massage an ego.

I wonder if Dave Featherly knew about this place? Big Grin
