Beware VALERIE DAVIS Apus/AMU

Fuck you VALERIE DAVIS, illiterate piece of shit. AMU is going to fire your stupid incompetent ass.

APU/AMU students, if you made the mistake of enrolling in a class "taught" by the moronic turd VALERIE DAVIS, immediately withdraw or you will be sorry. She is a complete fucking idiot who can barely write English and who has to copy her course materials from others because she is too fucking stupid to think up her own. Be warned.

We've been hearing a lot of similar tales about AMU since they went RA. Apparently they hired a bunch of affirmative action types who have no business teaching, which is what it sounds like you got. Check those bios before you sign on for classes there. There's still some of the old guard (pre-RA) left, but many of the new lot are bad news.

The faculty list shows her as "Master of Arts: Webster University," but she's a blank on three others which suggests a short-timer/new hire:

http://catalog.apus.edu/2010/faculty/bio...ie-e-davis

http://www.amu.apus.edu/academic/faculty...ie-e-davis

https://www.amu.apus.edu/login/Schedule/...02/faculty

Definitely make a stink with the admin if you think you got hosed. Let's see if RA means they know how to take out the trash.

What you told about this stranger, I could tell about others teaching at far older and more prestigious institutions than AMU/APUS. You may complain through the opportune channels, but do NOT expect much. Besides the creeps big brother and its circus may get when dealing with "affirmative action types" (if that's the case), think twice before lulling yourself into the idea the university might fire a teacher...that would first of all imply they hired an incompetent or unsuitable ...which would give the lie to all chatter about quality control. Second, her colleagues won't want to start a tradition of nailing one to her errors, for it just might ricochet later on...

You are right Ham, probably just an exercise in futility for our new friend. But no harm in making a stink anyway. College administrators are like prison administrators. If nobody riots, escapes or shanks a guard they call it a good day. It looks bad for the admins if the students are in revolt, so they take the easy way out. The bigger the ruckus the greater likelihood of the cause being eliminated.

But Mr. or Ms. Do6turf is definitely on the right track. If students start refusing to enroll in classes taught by Valerie Davis, the admins are going to stop offering classes taught by Valerie Davis.

Look at Gollin, co-teaching freshman fine arts classes, counseling engineering students, relegated to leading a single discussion section at 8:00 in the morning. As a physics professor he now is a totally discredited non-entity. It doesn't take students too long to figure out where the pot holes are and start driving around them.

Some of these DL profs teach at several schools simultaneously. There's also a Valerie E. Davis at UoPhoenix.

Back when KW/WNU was still in business you could find just about every DL prof who ever lived listed on their faculty page. Some of these guys do NCU, Columbia Southern, or Capella too, sometimes all of the above.

She's probably got 6 or 8 classes going at any time, and doing a half-assed job at all of them.

Well, the model that employs "tutors" (or whichever way you want to call them ) who are not faculty members but "freelance instructors" is common in the DL world. Many times you get bored idiots who are supposed to be doing things a certain way, but are doing a crap job. One instructor I had sent literally canned letters as judgments, with only a couple lines edited to insert the student's name and something about his job.
ALL instructors I ever had, faculty or not, forewarned students in the beginning about how busy they were tutoring n students.
Many (most?) "tutors" may be people juggling several jobs (one listed she was...a museum keeper? WTF? ).
Once again, distance learning offers many advantages...but the quality of instruction is ALWAYS a matter of luck...roll your dice and see...
What IS sure with DL is the money you save (communting, boarding...), the ease (a PC is mostly all you need) and the possibility to keep interactions with assholes, incompetents, lefty crackpots, special interest Barnums and so forth to a minimum...but make no mistake...THEY ARE OUT THERE AND YOU WILL MEET THEM IN DL AS WELL.

Although less common than on the B&M scene, many DL courses as well could have delighted East German policy makers of the 1970s.

Reminds me of that story about the twin brothers, one of whom enlisted in the military. He got about half way through his hitch and decided he'd had enough. He came home and got his twin to serve the rest of his time.

When they asked the twin how he could manage when he hadn't had any training, the guy said, "My brother told me to just act stupid and salute everybody you see."

That seems to be the way a lot of these courses work--just repeat the party line and defer to the genius of the prof.

Quote:One instructor I had sent literally canned letters as judgments, with only a couple lines edited to insert the student's name and something about his job.

Rarely does an online instructor design his own course, write his own syllabus or materials, or engage in any original thinking. They just change the name on somebody else's syllabus, and sometimes they don't even bother doing that. Then they lecture you about the evils of plagiarism. Go figure.

One of our correspondents says the registrar's office at Webster will not confirm that "Valerie E. Davis" graduated with an MA, despite repeated requests. May be she just got it under a different name. Or may be more to this than we first thought. Where there's smoke...
