They are definitely separate people. Several years back I tagged Peter, not George, as "the John Bear of Down Under." Whether it is a compliment or not would depend on one's view of John Bear, something about which I'll admit my opinion has evolved over time.

At one point French had the higher profile and more credibility. After George Brown obtained his PhD he eclipsed Peter in the credibility category and it now seems that Peter is comfortable with that role, stating that he is working for one of George Brown's "products."
George has always had somewhat of an entrepreneurial bent, for a while he ran some type of hotel training school for Malaysians that was investigated by Aussie authorities (and he is very touchy about discussing), so it is not suprising that he has opened new academic businesses post PhD.
