Quote:Is it merely coincidental that the private choice of home schooling was outlawed by the Soviet state in 1919, by Hitler and Nazi Germany in 1938, and by Communist China in 1949?
Carlos forgets home-schooling is illegal in Europe as far as I know.
Napoleon -who had a bad aftertaste of his school days as a cadet- introduced reforms to handle education as just another kind of army.
School is also used as a parking lot for the young...an alternative to dangerous streets taken over by gangs and crowded with (illegal) aliens selling dope.
I attended private schools (compulsory education) and state schools: while private schools were better, I can safely say learning was never paramount...religious private schools put paramount emphasis on conformism and on learning by heart all sorts of ritualistic tripe; state schools replaced with anodyne State gospel (mostly left wing ).
I learnt more in 6 months as self-taught student in University than in 5 years of high school...
I don't remember any teacher really interested in whether or not students "got it"; they were just droning on towards coffee breaks and paychecks, always telling naysayers that they were targeting utopian "average students" none in the class felt his equal...either too slow or too fast...too little or too much...I literally slept much of my last years in high school...
