Janko's New Gig? - WilliamW - 08-30-2012 All this time we thought the slimy bastard was dead. Turns out he was just doing a Huck Finn so he could relocate to Gujarat and open a clothing store dedicated to his hero, the late 88 himself. Quote:'Hitler' clothing store stirs anger in India RE: Janko's New Gig? - Ben Johnson - 09-01-2012 The use of the Swastika in Hinduism predates the Nazis by thousands of years so the Jews can pretty much screw off but with the name Hitler they might have a point. The Finns whose use of the Swastika predates the Nazis still use it. The emblem of the 45th Division was a Swastika. Making a very common symbol verboten because Nazi Germany used it is silly. True. The Swastika is found in Hindu as well as Buddhist temples. I would add that in World War II, the Nazis actually had Indians fighting on their side. A little known unit called Azad Hind Fauj (Hindi: आज़ाद हिन्द), or the Indian National Army existed. They were recruited from Indian prisoners of war. They were used mostly for propaganda purposes but there were some rare instances in which they were deployed, particularly in occupied France. Read the true story here.... ![]() I would say that their story has similarities to the Hitler's ROA or Russian Liberation Army. Like this group they were recruited among POWs. But thats an entirely different story. A similar phenomenon during the American Civil War: Black Confederates in the Civil War. Not POWs but brave men fighting for their country. It seems that the participants don't always consult with the revisionist historians before joining the fray. This makes it awkward to "explain" the conflict in ideological terms when the facts demonstrate otherwise. It had everything to do with the states' right to leave the Union. The immediate cause of the war was the shelling of Fort Sumter. The Union did not recognize the secession of the states so considered it an act of war. I don't notice the word slavery in any of this. The word popped up a couple years later. The North treated the South like dog crap and when they quit decided to kill them in large numbers so they could get them back and treat them like dog crap again. For a dead guy he gets around more than Elvis. Clearly that was a typo; should have been John Adolf-Hitler, with a hyphen. I am back after a long time.... Now, as a German let me say this: The swastika is a religious symbol widely used in Asia both in Hinduism and Buddhism. I have seen it so many times there. It has been misused by the German Nazis, but they have never been the experts to make "good" use of it. Using the name "Hitler" for a business in India is perhaps idiotic and attests to a business owner with a bit of a weird taste, to say the least. What should really bother me is the people whose feelings may be hurt by this. I have some Jewish friends, and I would not like to see their feelings hurt by this. I would stand up and speak out against such a thing. |
