my face feels strangely numb. uh. just like one nostril. hmmm!
i'll be in champaign for all of january, interning with a mobile outreach program doing hiv prevention. i'm taking a class, hiv/aids in america, and it's made me really interested in prevention education AND being a social worker. so there you go.

today a big fat blue station wagon was blocking my way home. i biked by slowly and almost fell of my bike, so i put my hand on the car to stable myself. this was entirely reasonable because 1. it was my hand 2. hello, you fat car (very reminiscent of the usa!) are blocking a lot of space, i just want to get to the other side of the bike path! so i steadied myself on this car, and biked merrily along. all was well, or so i thought!
i heard a car honk, it was that same fat blue car! had i dropped something? oh how nice of this driver to tell me. as you can see, my view of the german volk has been very positively influenced since those nice folks found my cell phone and gave it back to me. but nein! this lady was telling me to stop. she pulled over. very aggressively, i might add, onto the curb in a violent manner that could have damaged the underside of her car! what does she want? she tells me that i ran into her car, and insists on inspecting the side of her car for scratches and dents. which are NOT there (i steadied myself with my hand, remember?) she points to some mud splatters as evidence? i am trying hard to be polite, but it is hard. i explain that i thought it was ok to keep riding because i just touched her [stupid] car with my hand which was wearing a [fucking] glove. finally the german inquisition ends, during which time some of my compadres have pulled over and are looking at me like ''oh no.'' i explain to them that i hadnt done anything, it was just a she-goat (zickig) driver.

i didnt do anything wrong. would it have been better for me not to use my hand and to instead bash my handle bars into her side door? no! right? but the entire interaction with this lady put me in a bad mood. like what, you think that because you drive a big blue bmw that you are automatically right? arghhhhh.
also, it is pretty annoying that in these situations i find that i need to be excedingly polite, apologizing and justifying my behavior, when, HELLO, who is the one being accosted here?

TODAY in social sciences i felt so angekotzt and so disgusted that i threatened to stick my fountain pen in my eye, then i made up a bunch of bullshit about a cartoon we had been analyzing for almost an hour and a half.

the other day i was biking home from school and thinking about how, even if i happened to meet daniel brühl, it wouldn't even matter if he asked me for my number because i dont have a cell phone here. nevermind the fact that to tell someone my home phone number period i have to take out my phone card and read it to them. how embarassing, why cant i just merk it?!
ok also on my ipod i have the beginning of a live recording (from a radio performance) of the arcade fire singing ''born on a train'' by the magnetic fields. it sounds SO good, but it is only thirty seconds. these are basically the tragic things in my life right now. ha!

so i started Turkish cooking class yesterday. I was definitely the youngest lady there, and the most single (ie not married). The other ladies were all very nice, and some were very funny. We made an sort of sausage egg omlette, Yogurt drink, wheat grain salad and chilled rice flour milk dessert thing. it was very very yummy and very very fun.
excluding mondays and tuesdays when i dont have a first period class, it's now dark when i wake up. so hard to get up! i bike to school just after sun rise, so the sky is still perty. it's actually pretty cool once i get out of bed.

wait, no that isnt it. today in english i talked about the united fruit company and how mcdonald's destroys forests and it was pretty awesome that i remembered the ufc stuff from 11th grade and then dominick and phillip and i talked about music and american tv and dominick said phillip wanted to marry me.

i was just reading faith's journal and kinda missing american poetry. this is admittedly better than missing people, smells and places, but kinda a weird feeling. also, i have been listening to a lot of neutral milk hotel recently.

today i swam 1900 meters and then ate my own weight in chinese food. not my own weight, that was a lie!
